Wands and Casting Magic
Wands are the main source of casting spells on the Potterworld server. Every player receives their own wand when joining the server for the first time. Spells can be obtained or purchased through the store, different events, and levelling up. The wand helps you keep track of every spell earned and is the focal point to when you cast one of your spells.

Wand Basics
A spell is always equipped to the wand and therefore is able to be cast by just left-clicking while holding the wand. There are numerous spells that a can be obtained and chosen from. To view the different spells available, you simply have to right-click the wand while it is in your hand to open the wand menu; to close the menu and return to your regular inventory, right-click again.

Spell Points
You can earn spell points by attending classes, completing daily activities, and completing quests. These spell points can be used to purchase spells in your spellbook. To access the spellbook, use the <span style="color: #ccffcc;">/spellbook</span> command. At any given time, you can only purchase the spells in your year. For example, first year students can only purchase first year spells. To purchase spells of the next year, you must complete your end-of-year exam as a part of your levelling experience.

Wand Lore
Each wand has a unique wood and core that it is created from. You are able to view your own type of wand by hovering over it. When hovering, you are also able to see the spell currently equipped, your current year, the number of known spells, the amount of magic you have, as well as the magic regeneration. To select a wand wood and core, players must hold their wand and use the <span style="color: #ccffcc;">/wandlore</span> command. Changing it once more requires a Wand Lore Token.
The below tables detail the available wand lore woods and cores, some of which are seasonal, as of February 2025.
|-
| Phoenix Feather
|}

Selecting & Casting Spells
Casting a spell is very simple and only requires you to left-click with the wand in the direction you want the spell to go. Some spells will be cast on yourself while others could be cast on or against different players.

When you open the wand menu by right-clicking, you will see a list of different spells in your hotbar. Any of these spells can be equipped by using the number keys or scrolling with a mouse (this works exactly the same as how you would change to a different item or tool in your hotbar when playing Minecraft). However, when you select the spell you want to use, it will quickly highlight the option and then return to the wand. The spell you chose will now be the one equipped and ready to be cast.

If you are unsure of what a spell does, you simply have to hover over it while the wand menu is open to view the description. To see a list of the different spells and which levels they are obtained at, you can check out the Spells List page. You can also do <span style="color: #ccffcc;">/spellslist</span> or <span style="color: #ccffcc;">/spellList</span> while in-game on Potterworld to see a full list of every spell and their descriptions. Spells abilities can be increased using Talents.

Wand Hotbars
Wand hotbars refer to the spell hotbars that appear when right-clicking a wand. The wand hotbars are extremely useful to have while in combat or for general exploration around the server. This allows you to prepare the spells you most commonly use or feel will be the most helpful during an adventure.

The wand has two different hotbars of spells that you can choose from and easily swap to. To view the secondary hotbar you just have to open the wand hotbar (right-click while holding the wand) and press your drop key, which is the "q" key by default; this will quickly change the hotbar to a new selection of spells to choose from and edit. Another way to switch to the secondary hotbar is by left-clicking on your wand when the wand menu and spell inventory are open.

Spell Inventory
You obtain many spells through your time on the server and when you level up. Each wand hotbar is only able to hold 8 spells at a time (16 in total). To choose and change out the spells, you can right-click your wand and open up your inventory; you will then be able to see and find every other spell learned so far in your spell inventory. When an inventory page completely fills up with spells, a new page will be accessible. To view/change to another page, you can click on either side of your inventory or an empty space in your wand inventory.

You are able to edit your spell hotbars or organise your inventory spell pages depending on the most common spells that you use. To change out spells you can click on the spell you wish to remove from the hotbar and drag it to an open space in your spell inventory. Once you have removed a spell from the hotbar, you can click on another spell that you wish to have easy access to and drag it to the open space in the hotbar. As long as there is an open space available in your hotbars, then you can continue dragging in spells until all spots are filled up.

Wand Modifications
Different modifications and upgrades exist on the server to best fit your casting preferences. These can be accessed and equipped by running the command<span style="color: #ccffcc;"> /wands</span> while holding your wand and clicking on the “Wand Modifications" tab. You will then see a list of different preferences and modifications you are able to choose from. An NPC is also located in Diagonal Lane that allows you to choose from these same options.

Quick Casting is the ability to immediately cast a spell when choosing it in your spell hotbar (either scrolling to it or using the numbers on a keyboard). There are a few different modification options that you can choose for Quick Casting: Default, All Spells, and No Spells. The Default option sets Quick Casting only for certain spells while the All spells option sets it for every spell and No Spells removes Quick Casting alltogether.

Practising Magic
There are multiple ways that you can practise magic and aim with your spells. Duelling Halls are a popular and easily accessible location where you are able to practise shooting spells against another player. You are able to teleport to them using the NPCs labelled "Duelling Halls" located across the world map.

Another place you are able to practise is at housing plots. However, depending on the plot, some spells might be disabled and are not able to be cast. To enable magic on a plot, run the command <span style="color: #ccffcc;"> /house magic on</span>. You can also type <span style="color: #ccffcc;">/house damage on</span> and/or <span style="color: #ccffcc;">/house pvp on</span> to enable damage and PvP with other players.

Each spell has a specific amount of “magic” that it uses when cast. However, you are limited to 100 magic, which regenerates at 20 magic per second. If you run out of magic while casting and it has not regenerated enough by the time another spell is cast, you will be unable to use the spell. Your experience bar (line located above the hotbar) will help you keep track of the amount of magic you have left to use. If the bar runs out or is getting low then you will know you are close to running out of “magic” and should be careful.

Wand Cosmetics
There are many different options that you can purchase or obtain that will change the appearance, name, or particles of a wand. These cosmetics allow for you to make your wand even more unique and customisable.

Wand Appearances
Everyone has the same wand appearance when first receiving their wand, but you can purchase or obtain different appearances that will change the overall look of the wand. These new appearances can be purchased directly from the Potterworld store (located under the tab “Wand Upgrades”) or bought as a reward from different events.

Once you have obtained a wand appearance you can equip it by using the command <span style="color: #ccffcc;">/wands</span> while holding your wand and clicking on the “Wand Appearance” tab. If you have multiple different appearances then you can choose which one you would like to use after running that command.

*Warning: you will not be able to return to the default wand appearance once you have changed it for the first time.

Wand Effects
When a spell is cast there are oftentimes coloured particles that surround you. However, a different colour of particles can be purchased directly from the Potterworld store (located under the tab “Wand Upgrades”). There are many varieties and options to choose from that will change the particle colour of certain spells as well as surround you if you are holding your wand.

You will also receive coloured wand effects for certain allegiance/club packages. These colours can also be purchased separately without having to buy the whole package. If you are interested in only purchasing the allegiance/club wand effect, you can click the “Allegiance Wand Enhancement” tab under “Allegiances / Clubs”. Buying this option will also let you gain access to allegiance wand names and a new spell.

In order to equip or change the particle colour you can use the command <span style="color: #ccffcc;">/wands</span> while holding your wand and clicking on the “Wand Effects” tab.

Wand Names
You can also choose to rename your wand to make it more unique to yourself. To purchase a Wand Rename you can go to the Potterworld store and select the “Other” option under “Wand Upgrades”. After you purchase the Wand Rename, wait for the confirmation that it went through in-game then use the command <span style="color: #ccffcc;">/wandrename</span>. Using the wand rename system you can put a new name through.

When thinking of a name for your wand, make sure to come up with an appropriate name. Wand names can include symbols and colours. If you do not like the name anymore or want to change it you will have to purchase a new Wand Rename (even if just removing/adding a couple of letters). Similar to above, specific wand names also come with certain allegiance/club packages. The names can be purchased separately without having to buy the whole package. If you are interested in only purchasing the allegiance/club wand name, you can click the “Allegiance Wand Enhancement” tab under “Allegiances / Clubs”. Buying this option will also let you gain access to the wand effect and a new spell.

To change the wand name to an allegiance name option you can use the command<span style="color: #ccffcc;"> /wands</span> while holding your wand and choosing the name under the “Wand Names” tab.

Tips
* If you find that your wand has disappeared and you cannot find it in your inventory try switching worlds. If that does not work then create a ticket (<span style="color: #ccffcc;">/t create</span>) and let a staff member know your wand has disappeared.

* It is extremely helpful to organise your spell inventory by type or most used as you may have to quickly switch up spells for certain quests or different activities.

Overview
Events are special occasions on the server where new gameplay is temporarily added for players to enjoy. During each event, there are a variety of things that players can participate in. This includes quests, side-quests, and activities. Players are also often able to purchase rewards with Event Tokens.&nbsp; At the event build, there is an informative General NPCsNPC, usually named Kevin, who provides players with details about the event.

Currently, the Game DesignGame Designer team is responsible for creating all the events that are held on the server. Prior to the Game Designer team's formation, events were made by Magiventologists. This team was created in July 2020 and had been in charge of the events up until mid-2022. However, events themselves have been a long-running tradition since the server’s creation in 2014 and over 60 unique events have been held. Usually, events centre around time periods and holidays, such as Winter, Valentine’s, and Halloween. There are also events revolving around in-game holidays, such as the Butterbrew Festival and the Anniversary events.&nbsp;

Content
Quests
Quests are tasks given out to players, with most event quests following the overarching event storyline. These event quests are different from normal world Questsquests, as event quests expire after the event's end.&nbsp;

Side Quests
Side-quests are quests given outside of the main storyline and are often repeatable every 12 hours for Event Tokens.

Activities
Activities are various non-quest actions that players can complete. This can encompass a variety of things, such as games, collecting nodes, parkours, and mazes.

Collectables & Rewards
Players can receive or purchase a multitude of different items during events. While not every item is offered during every event, collectables, banners, and heads are typically included. Occasionally other rewards such as wand appearances, hats, pets, and emotes can be purchased. These are usually not available from the online store, so they can only be obtained from the event. Every event from 2023 and onwards players with a collectable token, which was sold for only a small amount of Event Tokens. This token was coloured in a colour relevant to the theme of the event and all tokens can be stored throughout the year in the Event Token Pouch, as a display of the events a player has attended.

Overview
Making another appearance since its first release during the 2020 Halloween in Haunted Hollow event, the Haunted Hollow returned once more. This Return to the Haunted Hollow event was held from 12th October to 16th November 2024. Players were reunited with familiar faces as they worked to uncover the truth behind Kevin’s disappearance. A new dungeon, Phantomphobia, was also introduced. By participating in the event’s offerings, players could obtain exclusive rewards, both old and new.

Storyline
This event introduced a new storyline within the Haunted Hollow, building upon previous events from 2020 and 2021. It focused on Kevin’s disappearance following the conclusion of the 2024 Hogsend's Butterbrew Festival. Hogsworth students, alongside Ella Williams and Sienna Warwickson, worked to uncover what happened to Kevin and bring him back before the Halloween festivities were jeopardised. Each week, more of the mystery—along with The Fated storyline—was unfolded through newly released quests: Static Freak-quency, Cryptic Constellations, As Time Runs Out, and Intercepting Destiny Recap, which recounted the storyline’s live conclusion on Saturday, 2nd November.

Location
This event took place in the Haunted Hollow, a town filled with Halloween festivities, whose residents were all magical creatures. Only a train ride away from Hogsend Station, this hillside town featured Victorian Gothic Revival style houses and mansions, a pumpkin patch, and a graveyard. Tall, deciduous trees were aplenty, showcasing fall-coloured leaves.
Quests
There were 16 quests for this event, some of which made a return from past Halloween events. Upon completion, each rewarded Boo Bucks and a large amount of experience.

Peculiar Findings
Kevin went missing from his usual spot in the Great Hall, and Ella Williams was on the case. She asked players for help after having no luck with posters or an article in the school paper. Her Auralock father suggested casting the Revelius spell and following a hidden trail. However, the trail stopped outside Hogsworth’s Room of Requisite on the 7th floor. A hidden room within revealed Kevin’s Klubhaus—a hideout he used when no events were active. Kevin’s Collar and Kevin’s Logbook revealed that he had been taken to the Haunted Hollow. After catching a train from Hogsend Station bound for the Haunted Hollow, the player had to fix a hijacked engine using Kevin’s Collar. Upon their arrival, Sienna Warwickson welcomed them to town, introducing herself as an investigator into Kevin’s disappearance and alluding to a group involved.

Whispers in the Night
A Recruitment Poster announced that the Paranormal Hunting and Retrieval Team was looking to recruit new members to deal with paranormal activities in Ichabod Lane. Auralock authority Dan Wickerwood, who was recently promoted to Head of the Strike Team, welcomed players to the team and introduced the field test. The team continually received reports of paranormal activity, and it was their duty to show up, identify the type of paranormal beast haunting folks, and deal with it. The player then went back and forth between the house at 1A Ichabod Lane and the team’s van outside, looking for clues and using tools such as an EMF Sensor, Ghost Writing Book, Bag of Salt, UV Light, Thermometer, Spirit Box, and Video Camera to determine the type of spirit. Afterwards, the Phantomphobia Dungeon was unlocked with dungeons, and the player was declared a full-fledged team member. This also unlocked Phantomphobia achievements, where, after obtaining all 20, a Possessed Rat collectable became available for redemption.

Droobledore's Mansion
An owl delivered players an invitation to a Halloween Masquerade Ball at Droobledore's Mansion. Upon taking the train and entering the mansion, Headmaster Droobledore welcomed the player to stay for a long while and enjoy the food, music, and entertainment. A Grounds Keeper nearby explained that this Droobledore was an impostor who trapped people here for eternity, turning into a poltergeist. To escape, the player needed to capture five poltergeists roaming the mansion, each of which was tied to an object they had previously owned. After doing so and completing some puzzles, the front door became unlocked.

One of Them
Mason’s son, Jacon, had been lured away by Vexlings, who are known for taking children, and he requested the player’s help in finding him. Near the Pumpkin Patch, in a smaller house, Edwin the Vexling reported that a werechild had claimed to have run away and was currently upstairs. Instead, there was a scribbled note, which revealed where Jacon went off to next. After following the high-pitched cackles to Jacon, who wanted to become a Vexling, he willingly returned to Mason.

Murder Mystery
Count Ciarian was recently found murdered in his mansion after a dinner party, and the maid, Polly, requested assistance in solving the case. The hired detective instructed the player to gather evidence by photographing each suspected room, determining the murder weapon and the location of the crime, and interviewing the five guests: Dr. Ebony, Hugh, Madame Ruby, Sir Geraldous, and Chef Chappy. Afterwards, the murderer was identified and apprehended.

The Vengeful Excapee
After Count Ciarian’s tragic murder a year ago, he has since preferred to remain in the graveyard, undisturbed. His murderer, Polly—formerly the mansion's maid—was imprisoned in the dungeons, where she has remained for what has felt like years. Following reports that Polly has successfully escaped, the Count requested the player’s assistance in recapturing her. Upon entering the dungeons near the Pumpkin Patch, the player investigated for clues. After locating Polly, who revealed her true identity, escaping the cell, and defeating her, the Count rewarded the player with a Deed to Wealth collectable.

Happy Death Day
Basically Beheaded Benjamin, the Griffin house ghost, decided to celebrate his 532nd Death Day at the Haunted Hollow this year. However, things did not go according to plan, and he required assistance to get the party started. The player wrote three invitations, decorated the mansion’s ballroom with pumpkins and a fog machine, and delivered the invites to the Sandersisters, Old Vincent down the road, and the ghosts at the graveyard. With all attendees present and decorations up, the party commenced, and Benjamin thanked the player for their efforts.

Tombstone Traditions
Jerome Clement the Third, the Haunted Hollow’s resident ghost and mayor presently, required assistance in making Halloween baskets for the other residents. The player was directed to Lenora and her husband, Luther, who were in charge of that year’s trick-or-treating. After grabbing String, Licorice Leech, and Screamstem from Marjory’s Inn on the east side of town, the player crafted Trick or Treating Baskets. These were then hidden around the Graveyard, near the Train Station.

Rhys's Pieces
Ingrid the Vampire was being haunted by a pesky Ghoul named Rhys in her attic. After the player repaired the attic key using Hallowed Ore, Rhys revealed that they had been longing to go outside but required five sentimental items and a place to stay in order to leave. Upon retrieving Rhys’s belongings and cleaning up an abandoned home, Rhys departed for their new residence and repaid the player for their assistance.

Howl-o-ween
Orlando, the head of the local Werewolf community, has been entrusted with keeping everyone safe. However, he noticed that a Ghoul child named Eda Yardbury was showing signs of Werewolf shifting and requested that the player check in on Eda and her mother at their home towards the centre of town. Upon arrival, the player urgently brewed a Magical Ointment to slow down Mrs. Yardbury’s infection. It was revealed that Eda, who was a quarter Werewolf, had accidentally injured her mother in her wolfish state and needed to be tracked down. After finding Eda and calming her down with a Ukulele, Mrs. Yardbury and Orlando both thanked the player.

The Lost Spectacles
The strange Old Vincent lived alone and occasionally needed help from the residents of Haunted Hollow. Rodger, who was extremely busy with the upcoming festivities, directed the player to gather and deliver Old Vincent’s weekly groceries. Upon delivery, Vincent asked for a favour: he needed the player to retrieve his Magical Spectacles, which were locked behind three locks in a very dark storage room. Afterwards, he thanked the player for taking the time to help.

The Right of Passage
Octavius, the previous mayor of Haunted Hollow, explained that much has happened since 2020, when students first visited. Upon hearing a strange voice, the player was directed to speak to Mason in the town centre. Mason subsequently revealed that his son, Jacon, had come of age and was attempting the Werewolf Rite of Passage alone. However, Jacon was worried about failing. The player then assisted Jacon by obtaining Meat, cooking it with Aromatics, thus creating Ceremonial Meat, which needed to be defended until sunrise with a Wolf Claw. Afterwards, Jacon expressed his gratitude, as he had been accepted as a full member of the Haunted Hollow Werewolf pack.

Static Freak-quency
One week into the event, Sienna Warwickson had found a lead regarding Kevin's disappearance. At her office within the train station, she disclosed that an old-time radio had picked up a mysterious frequency hidden within the airwaves, which required two people to keep it tuned. After the player completed the radio’s Death frequency puzzle, it was revealed that a group called The Fated was involved.

Cryptic Constellations
Two weeks into the event, Sienna discovered another lead about The Fated. The previous transmission included a line about the stars, and she theorised that, because the Haunted Hollow lies perfectly along a Starchart Path, using a Stargazer at specific spots in town would reveal hidden constellations. The player then aided her by locating three more constellations using the Stargazer and Crystal Ball, which revealed encrypted messages.

As Time Runs Out
Three weeks into the event, Sienna pinpointed that The Fated’s hideout was at the Graveyard near the giant pumpkins. Unfortunately, the entrance required a code, leading Sienna to direct the player to investigate residents’ basements for a lead. In the first basement, Ella Williams confided that she felt something was off about Sienna, given a suspicious newspaper archives article featuring Sienna and a group in strange robes. In the second basement, the player collected ingredients and brewed a Restored Memory Vial. After visiting the third, fourth, and fifth basements, it was revealed that Sienna was involved with The Fated, and Ella asked the player to feign ignorance.

Intercepting Destiny Recap
The Fated storyline concluded with a live event on 2nd November. In remembrance of the live event, this quest used a Temporal Shard, allowing players to relive Sienna and Ella’s heroic confrontation and Kevin’s rescue. After watching the cutscene, Kevin’s Collar collectable became available for sale.

Side Quests
All side quests rewarded Boo Bucks and a modest amount of experience, and they were also repeatable every 12 hours. However, some formed a questline and ended once all associated sub-quests were completed. For example, the Ghost Busters side quest was infinitely repeatable every 12 hours, however, the Overcoming Fears side quest[line] could be started again after 12 hours and concluded after the sixth Shapeshifter had been dealt with.
Halloween Hustle
Sabrina the witch needed help with some Halloween errands. One such task involved crafting a special Bag of Candy—consisting of Chocolate, Jelly Beans, a Sugar Skull, and a Candy Cane—for an eager Edgar, a dear friend of Sabrina’s. Another errand had the player pick out a Pumpkin from the north-west Pumpkin Patch for carving and decorating, as Sabrina despised her bare, spiritless house. A third task saw the player head up to the attic with a Ghost Buster to investigate the odd noises. A fourth errand required persuading Sabrina’s brother, Lucas, to return home from the Graveyard. To gain his trust, the player had to answer a question of his, with a clue found in his house. The final errand was more relaxed, involving the player trick-or-treating at three nearby houses. These five errands could be repeated, although cycling one after the other in succession.

Trick or Treating
Sam invited players to participate in trick-or-treating, a Haunted Hollow specialty. Players had two minutes to visit as many houses as possible around town and trick-or-treat, obtaining either a trick, a Jelly Bean, a Bag of Chocolates, or a Licorice Leech. These sweets were exchangeable for Boo Bucks. Additionally, a Spooktacular Trashbin collectable beaded handbag was redeemable in exchange for 75 Jelly Beans, five Bags of Chocolate, and 30 Licorice Leeches.

Working with Wolves
Orlando, the leader of the Haunted Hollow Werewolf pack, urgently requested players’ help in preparing for an impending full moon. In this questline, helping involved hunting Thestries with a Crossbow in the graveyard for Raw Meat, then distributing it amongst the families to keep the pack’s appetites at bay; checking in on Mrs. Yardbury and her shifting daughter, Eda, as they were new to the pack; keeping the Haunted Hollow Vampires from leaving town with a Fire Wand; defeating Caius, a violent rogue Werewolf with a large pack, using a Silversword; and curing Orlando with a healing tonic made from Vexling Tooth, Skeleton Bone, and Ghoul Claw.

Ghost Busters
A Ghost Buster needed help capturing chaotic ghosts infesting the Haunted Hollow graveyard. After capturing 15 ghosts with a Proton Pack Vacuum, the player was rewarded.

Overcoming Fears
Marcus, a fellow outsider, arrived from a far-off land with concerns about an impending disaster in the Haunted Hollow. Six Shapeshifters—named Fangor, Eldric, Aelorn, Ravorn, Erevan, and Draenor—were planning something dreadful, using their abilities to transform into the townsfolk’s deepest fears. It seemed as though Freya Ranye would be the first victim, due to her knowledge of ancient magic and fear of dark forces. Other victims included Riley Irving, for her fear of heights; Iris Moonshadow, for her claustrophobia; Gideon Thorne, for his nyctophobia; Hannah Sterling, for her unstable magic power generator; and Thomas Vale, for his insecurities. For each victim, the player worked to protect them and, subsequently, defeat a Shapeshifter. After dealing with all six Shapeshifters in this questline, a Protective Amulet collectable was rewarded.

Activities
Apple Bobbing
Johnny Appleseed claimed this was the best activity to play at the Haunted Hollow. At any of the Apple Bobbing cauldrons scattered around town, players spent five Boo Bucks to start. Within 30 seconds, they had three attempts to throw a knife at a good red or green apple. Rotten reddish-brown apples were to be avoided. There were three unique collectables available to exchange for: a Carved Green Apple for 10 Green Apples, a Carved Red Apple for 10 Red Apples, and The Hollow’s Golden Apple for 64 Green Apples and 64 Red Apples.

Gelatinous Delight
As the owner of the premiere Gummy Bear farm, the Candy Seller nurtured cage-free, all-natural, pasture-raised, organic gummy bears who had a tendency of escaping. To combat dwindling sales, players helped out by finding all the missing Gummy Bears within Candy Basket nodes. There were four different colours of Gummy Bears: Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue. Each was exchangeable for a different amount of Boo Bucks depending on the colour.

Minigames
The Minigames Master NPC offered the following minigames, which rewarded Boo Bucks depending on the difficulty. Additionally, those in games rewarded Boo Bucks for the event’s duration.

Dungeons
A new dungeon was released with this event, which you unlocked by playing the quest Whispers in the Night. Each time you played it, you were rewarded with a large or small amount of Boo Bucks depending on whether you guessed the ghost correctly or incorrectly.
Phantomphobia
After joining the dungeon, each team member voted for the level of difficulty they wanted to play. The easiest difficulty took you to a house with 5 rooms, and players would be able to find up to 3 pieces of evidence to help them correctly identify the ghost. Medium difficulty took you to a house with 8 rooms, and players would be able to find up to 2 pieces of evidence to help them correctly identify a ghost. The hardest difficulty took you to a mansion with 11 rooms, and players would only be able to find up to 1 piece of evidence to help them correctly identify a ghost. In addition to collecting evidence using the tools in the van, players were able to watch the ghost's movement speed and behaviors in order to assist them in correctly identifying the ghost. Overall, there were 24 ghosts to distinguish from one another: Banshee, Demon, Deogen, Goryo, Hantu, Jinn, Mare, The Mimic, Moroi, Myling, Obake, Oni, Onryo, Phantom, Poltergeist, Raiju, Revenant, Shade, Spirit, Thaye, The Twins, Wraith, Yokai, and Yurei.
