== Overview ==
The Arena team is part of the [[Academics]] Department and are responsible for managing and planning monthly [[Challenges and Tournaments{{!}}tournaments]] for both Dueling and Flying, as well as seasonal tournaments such as Sledding or Star Racing. They are also in charge of posting updates for each tournament as well as announcing the winners. 

The team works together in smaller groups (consisting both of Academic Aides and Arena Masters) to plan and prepare the tournaments each month.

====== Requirements ======
* You must be at least 15 years old.
* You must be able to use Discord with a microphone and be comfortable speaking to others.
* You must have access to your own personal Gmail account.
* You must be a Graduate on the server. If you reset your account, you must have been a Graduate before resetting.
* Having a clean record on Potterworld is recommended, but not required.
* If you're a staff member, you must have permission to apply from the Head of your Primary Department.

====== Responsibilities ======
* You must help in at least 2 Classes, Challenges, and/or Tournaments per week.
* You will be expected to grade assignments without bias.
* You will be expected to answer class questions and help players efficiently.

===== Academic Aide =====
Academic Aides are the entry rank for the Arena team. They assist and help with challenges and tournaments in-game, as well as track tournament champions and participants.

===== Arena Master =====
Arena Masters inherit all responsibilities of Academic Aides, as well as organising and hosting the monthly tournaments and challenges. As a more senior member, they also lead projects, contribute to season releases, and give guidance to Arena Squires.

===== Arena Grandmaster =====
Arena Grandmasters inherit all responsibilities of Arena Masters, in addition to more leadership responsibilities and team involvement. In this higher senior role, they send out tournament-related announcements, update the tournament winners on the forums, host and help, as well as provide feedback. They also give guidance to Academic Aides and Arena Masters.

===== Lead Arena Master =====
The lead(s) of the Arena team. The Lead Arena Master(s) oversee the team and ensure all tournaments and challenges are running smoothly.

== Overview ==
The Academics team is part of the [[Academics]] department. Their mission is to provide the most educational and enjoyable magical [[Classes{{!}}classes]] to the students. This team works hard to create lesson plans on topics such as magical creatures, spells, and plants for everyone to learn about. The Professor team also works behind the scenes to create interactive lesson plans to be used, such as collecting your own ingredients in Potions class or feeding some [[Hippogriff (Mob){{!}}Hippogriffs]]! In classes, this team works to provide information about the topic, and grades your assignments based on the effort and creativity!

===== Academic Aide =====
Academic Aide is the entry rank into the Professor team. It is a trial to become a Professor. They help out in classes, answer questions, enforce rules, as well as interacting with the students! Members have the option of staying in this rank if they do not wish to teach classes themselves.

===== Jr. Professor =====
Jr. Professor inherits most the duties of Academic Aides, but are now able to teach their own classes! They are responsible for creating lesson plans and teaching them to the students. They are also expected to help in classes when no Academic Aides are available.

===== Sr. Professor =====
Jr. Professor and Sr. Professor are very similar, but there is one main difference between the two roles: mentoring! Sr. Professors are allowed to mentor staff members within the team. As a mentor, their job is to help their mentee improve both Academics-wise and as a staff member overall.

===== Academics Advisor =====
The Academics Advisor serves as a bridge between the Professors/Academic Aides and the leadership of the Academics department. They help to organise the team and improve lesson plans Professors make.

===== Academics Lead =====
The Academics Lead works closely with the head of the Academics team. They work to give final approval on interactive lesson plans, make changes to the department seen fit, and even train members of the team.

== Overview ==
Recently renamed from Weekly Assignments, Extra Credit Assignments are regular opportunities for players to submit out-of-class assignments on the forums for Extra Credit Assignment Tokens. Unlike the [[Classes{{!}}classes]] taught on the server, players do not have to submit assignments in real-time or even be logged into the server. All players must do to submit an Extra Credit Assignment is to have an account on the forum that is linked to their player. Introduced in September of 2021, they have since been posted every Sunday under the [https://potterworldmc.com/forums/news-and-updates.2/ News and Updates] section. Players submit their Extra Credit Assignments through a [https://potterworldmc.com/form/academics-weekly-assignment.74/select form] and are able to view their submissions on the [https://potterworldmc.com/form/academics-weekly-assignment.74/select Weekly Assignment forum].

== Extra Credit Assignment Topics ==
Extra Credit Assignments allow [[Academics Team{{!}}Professors]] to showcase their lesson plans to those who may not be able to make their in-game classes. Every assignment is about one of the [[Class Subjects{{!}}class subjects]], along with more specific topics. In each Extra Credit Assignment, background information about the topic is given and a prompt relating to the background is provided. New Weekly Assignments are posted on Sundays, with submitted assignments being due the following Sunday at 12 AM PST.

== Grading ==
Extra Credit Assignments are graded using the same grade scale as the one used in-game. The major difference is the reward given to players for completed assignments. Any assignment graded an O- or above earns two Extra Credit Assignment Tokens, and any assignment E+ or below will earn one Extra Credit Assignment Token. These tokens can be redeemed in the Academics Hall at the Claw Machine for a chance at either an exclusive collectable or some AC.

== Previous Grading System ==
Prior to the introduction of the Academics Hall, the grading scale was similar to the one used in-game. Notably, however, the maximum AC that players could receive was 20 AC, as opposed to the 30 AC maximum in-game. Generally, the amount of AC received for Extra Credit Assignments was lower than AC received for the same grade in-game. This is because Extra Credit Assignments were not time restrictive and players had the entire week to submit them.
In order to receive a grade and AC, players must have abided by the rules stated at the end of every Extra Credit Assignment. Five sentences was generally the required minimum for submitted assignments.
Additionally, every assignment must have been the player’s own writing and could not be plagiarised. Assignments must also have followed all of the PotterworldMC [https://potterworldmc.com/rules/forum/ rules]. Not meeting any of these requirements would result in no AC and players were not able to redo assignments.

== Overview ==
Live classes are voluntarily held by the [[Academics Team{{!}}Academics team]] periodically and in real-time throughout the day. An up-to-date schedule of classes can be found on the [https://potterworldmc.com/calendar/ calendar], which can be accessed through the calendar tab on the Potterworld [https://potterworldmc.com/ website] and by doing {{Command|nc}} in-game. The [[Commands|command]] {{Command|nc}} will also make a title screen pop up that shows the next scheduled class along with how long until the class begins. Players can also view the next scheduled class through the scoreboard. The scoreboard settings found in {{Command|me}} allows players to enable or disable the class countdown in their scoreboard. There are also surprise classes held that are not on the schedule. Before a surprise class, a message will be broadcasted in-game announcing which class subject will be taught and who will be teaching it.

Before any class is taught, a message is sent in the #class-update channel on the PotterworldMC [https://discord.gg/sUy6cBT Discord]. Players can also choose to be pinged in #bot-commands 10 minutes before a scheduled class starts. To get pinged for the next upcoming class, they can do '''''!nc''''' in the channel, then react to that message or send '''''!notify true''''' in the same channel. To be pinged for all upcoming scheduled classes, they can do '''''!notify permanent true''''' in #bot-commands.

Classes are held by the Academics Team and are primarily taught by Jr. Professors and Sr. Professors, who are assisted by Class Helpers. However, Academics Advisors, Academics Leads, Heads of Academics, along with any Head Staff are also able to teach classes if they choose to. Any rank in the Academics Team can help in classes if there is a lack of available Class Helpers.

There are a few different types of classes: note classes, interactive classes, and activity classes. During note classes, the notes are typically said in chat or given out in the form of a textbook. Then, students do an assignment based on the notes. Interactive classes are worked on by the Class Design team and can be taught in a variety of ways. During these classes, there is still the possibility for written assignments, but, occasionally, students also complete tasks in-game for [[Academic Credits]]. Activity classes are classes that often combine notes with some form of activity not made by Class Design. There are currently over 40 different subjects that can be taught. For a full list, please reference the [[Class Subjects]] page.

== How to Join ==
When it is time for class, a broadcast is sent out in-game that includes the Professor teaching the class along with the class subject. Below that line of information, there is another line stating “CLICK HERE to join the queue for class!”. After opening their chat, players can select the 'CLICK HERE' to join the queue for class. But, if they click it again, they will leave the queue for the class. For an example message of this broadcast, players can talk to the Professor [[General NPCs|NPC]] in the Trophy Room in [[Hogsworth]].

Shortly after the queue is sent out, an additional broadcast will go out that says the subject of the class and how many students are in it. At this point, students who are in the queue will begin to get teleported into the class server. The only way to join the class if you miss the initial broadcast is to be added by a Class Helper or the Professor. If there is room, a Class Helper will ask in global chat if anyone wants to join the class. To join, the player can confirm that they want to join by messaging in global chat or by private messaging the Class Helper by doing {{Command|msg}}.

== Grading ==
The grading scale for written assignments, from lowest to highest is:

T - Troll

D - Dreadful

P - Poor

A - Acceptable

E - Exceeds Expectations

O - Outstanding

Grades can also be modified with a minus (-) or a plus (+), meaning that the highest grade possible is an O+. The grades A, E, or O are passing grades, and students who receive these grades will get Academic Credits for their effort. On the other hand, those who receive failing grades, T, D, and P, will not get Academic Credits from the class. The amount of Academic Credits each grade is worth varies based on the class and Professor. 

Grades are not given in Flying, Dueling, Potions, Wizard’s PE, and some interactive or activity classes. In these classes, students do various activities in order to earn Academic Credits.

== Academic Credits ==
Academic Credits, or AC, are the primary reward students gain from classes. [[House Points & House Cup{{!}}House points]] may also be rewarded in special cases, such as excellent classwork or winning a competition-based class. In general, the amount of AC that can be received from a class ranges from five to 30 AC. Players can check how much AC they have by doing {{Command|bal}}, {{Command|ac}}, {{Command|balance}}, or {{Command|money}} to see their balances.

AC can be traded for [[Gold]] or experience in the Credit Trader GUI, which can be accessed by the Credit Trader NPC in the Trophy Room or in the {{Command|me}} menu by selecting the Hogsworth crest in the bottom left. They can also be used to purchase exclusives, collectables and more from the AC Shop, found in the Academics Hall or in the {{Command|me}} menu by selecting the Shops button in the top left.

== Hours of Classes ==
On occasion, the Academics team hosts an Hours of Classes event. Announced via a forum post, these can range from eight hours to 24 hours of back-to-back classes. A surefire way to gain AC quickly, players can plan out which classes they want to attend using a pre-released event schedule. Starting with an [https://potterworldmc.com/threads/8-hours-of-classes.15640/ October 2023 Hours of Classes event], some Hours of Classes rewarded a collectable for attending a specific amount of classes.

== Class Tips ==
* Pay attention to rules at the start of class! While they are generally similar for every class, the exact rules may differ. What is allowed in one Professor’s class may be against the rules in another’s.
* Taking notes during notes classes makes the assignment much easier to complete and excel on. If the notes are going too fast to keep up with, players can message the Professor to ask them to slow down.
* Make sure to read fully through assignment prompts to ensure that an extra quiz question or vital piece of information is not missed.
* In the majority of assignment prompt books, there will be a Frequently Asked Questions section in the back that can answer some common concerns and questions.
* The {{Command|rh}} command can be used to raise the student’s hand, and they can get questions answered by the Class Helpers and Professors. When the student’s hand is picked, a message will be said in chat that contains the student’s name and the name of who picked their hand. The student will then be able to say one message in the class chat to ask their question. If they need to ask another question, they will have to raise their hand again. If a player is uncomfortable asking their question in the class chat, they can private message the Professor or a Class Helper with their question.
* When missing an item they need to complete the class, such as a potion ingredient or the assignment prompt, the player can raise their hand and let the Professor know what specific item they need.
* If a player crashes from class, they can be added back to participate and gain Academic Credits. To be added back, they can message a Class Helper or the Professor or ask to be re-added in global chat.
* When being re-added to Wizard’s PE, the player can inform whoever is adding them what part of the course they were on. This will allow the player to go back to the stage they were on before they crashed. 
* The Class Helper NPCs found in most classrooms give the students access to Book and Quills, a Disposal menu, and an Ender Chest. Students can access the Book and Quills and Disposal menu at any time, but magic must be turned on for the Ender Chest to be accessible.
* If a player is still queued for a game after they join the class, they can do {{Command|exit}} to leave the minigame queue. Doing {{Command|leave}} will cause the player to leave the class instead of the minigame queue.

==== History ====
Academic Credits used to serve a different purpose up until 2018. Players previously would use Academic Credits to purchase [[Spells List{{!}}spells]]. Therefore, this also made them the only way to progress through the years.

Academic Credits also used to be a physical currency. However, in 2016, Academic Credits along with other currencies were changed to a digital form. The physical version still exists, but cannot be used. Many players find it as a nice keepsake and tradable item.

== Overview ==
Weekly Assignments are regular opportunities for players to submit out-of-class assignments on the forums for [[Academic Credits{{!}}AC]]. Unlike the [[Classes{{!}}classes]] taught on the server, players do not have to submit assignments in real-time or even be logged into the server. All players must do to submit a Weekly Assignment is to have an account on the forum that is linked to their player. Introduced in September of 2021, they have since been posted every Sunday under the [https://potterworldmc.com/forums/news-and-updates.2/ News and Updates] section. Players submit their Weekly Assignments through a [https://potterworldmc.com/form/academics-weekly-assignment.74/select form] and are able to view their submissions on the [https://potterworldmc.com/form/academics-weekly-assignment.74/select Weekly Assignment forum].

== Weekly Assignment Topics ==
Weekly Assignments allow [[Academics Team{{!}}Professors]] to showcase their lesson plans to those who may not be able to make their in-game classes. Every assignment is about one of the [[Class Subjects{{!}}class subjects]], along with more specific topics. In each Weekly Assignment, background information about the topic is given and a prompt relating to the background is provided. New Weekly Assignments are posted on Sundays, with submitted assignments being due the following Sunday at 12 AM PST.

== Grading ==
Weekly Assignments are graded using the same grade scale as the one used in-game. The major difference is the reward given to players for completed assignments. Any assignment graded an O- or above earns 2 Weekly Assignment Tokens, and any assignment E+ or below will earn 1 Weekly Assignment Token. These tokens can be redeemed in the Academics Hall at the Claw Machine for a chance at either an Exclusive Collectable or some AC.

== Previous Grading System ==
Prior to the introduction of the Academics Hall, the grading scale was similar to the one used in-game. Notably, however, the maximum AC that players could receive was 20 AC, as opposed to the 30 AC maximum in-game. Generally, the amount of AC received for Weekly Assignments was be lower than AC received for the same grade in-game. This is because Weekly Assignments were not time restrictive and players had the entire week to submit them.
In order to receive a grade and AC, players must have abided by the rules stated at the end of every Weekly Assignment. 5 sentences was generally the required minimum for submitted assignments.
Additionally, every assignment must have been the player’s own writing and could not be plagiarised. Assignments must also have followed all of the PotterworldMC [https://potterworldmc.com/rules/forum/ rules]. Not meeting any of these requirements would result in no AC and players were not able to redo assignments.

The command '''''/nc''''' will also make a title screen pop up that shows the next scheduled class along with how long until the class begins. Players can also view the next scheduled class through the scoreboard. The scoreboard settings found in '''''/me''''' allows players to enable or disable the class countdown in their scoreboard. There are also surprise classes held that are not on the schedule. Before a surprise class, a message will be broadcasted in-game announcing which class subject will be taught and who will be teaching it.

Players can also choose to be pinged in #bot-commands 10 minutes before a scheduled class starts. To get pinged for the next upcoming class, they can do '''''!nc''''' in the channel, then react to that message or send '''''!notify true''''' in the same channel. To be pinged for all upcoming scheduled classes, they can do '''''!notify permanent true''''' in #bot-commands.

Classes are held by the Academics Team, and primarily taught by Jr. Professors and Sr. Professors, who are assisted by Class Helpers. However, Academics Advisors, Academics Leads, Heads of Academics, along with any Head Staff are also able to teach classes if they choose to. Any rank in Academics can help in classes if there is a lack of available Class Helpers.

There are a few different types of classes: note classes, interactive classes, and activity classes. During note classes, the notes are typically said in chat or given out in the form of a textbook. Then, students do an assignment based on the notes. Interactive classes are worked on by the Class Design team and can be taught in a variety of ways. During these classes, there is still the possibility for written assignments, but, occasionally, students also complete tasks in-game for [[Academic Credits]]. Activity classes are interactive classes that are taught on a regular basis, and they lack notes or assignments. The current activity classes taught regularly are Flying, Dueling, Potions, and Wizard’s PE. There are currently over 40 different subjects that can be taught. == How to Join ==
When it is time for class, a broadcast is sent out in-game that includes the Professor teaching the class along with the class subject. Below that line of information, there is another line stating “CLICK HERE to join the queue for class!”. After opening their chat, players can select the 'CLICK HERE' to join the queue for class. But, if they click it again, they will leave the queue for the class. For an example message of this broadcast, players can talk to the Professor NPC in the Trophy Room in [[Hogsworth]].

Shortly after the queue is sent out, an additional broadcast will go out that says the subject of the class and how many students are in it. At this point, students who are in the queue will begin to get teleported into the class server. The only way to join the class if you miss the initial broadcast is to be added by a Class Helper or the Professor. If there is room, a Class Helper will ask in global chat if anyone wants to join the class. To join, the player can confirm that they want to join by messaging in global chat or by private messaging the Class Helper by doing '''''/msg'''''.

== Grading ==
The grading scale for written assignments, from lowest to highest is:

T - Troll

D - Dreadful

P - Poor

A - Acceptable

E - Exceeds Expectations

O - Outstanding

Grades can also be modified with a minus (-) or a plus (+), meaning that the highest grade possible is an O+. The grades A, E, or O are passing grades, and students who receive these grades will get Academic Credits for their effort. On the other hand, those who receive failing grades, T, D, and P, will not get Academic Credits from the class. The amount of Academic Credits each grade is worth varies based on the class and Professor. 

Grades are not given in Flying, Dueling, Potions, Wizard’s PE, and some interactive classes. In these classes, students do various activities in order to earn Academic Credits.

== Academic Credits ==
Academic Credits, or AC, are the primary reward students gain from classes. [[House Points & House Cup{{!}}House points]] may also be rewarded in special cases, such as excellent classwork or winning a competition-based class. In general, the amount of AC that can be received from a class ranges from 5 to 30 AC. Players can check how much AC they have by doing '''''/bal''''', '''''/ac''''', '''''/balance''''', or '''''/money''''' to see their balances.

AC can be traded for [[Gold]] or experience in the Credit Trader GUI, which can be accessed by the Credit Trader NPC in the Trophy Room or in the '''''/me''''' menu by selecting the Hogsworth crest in the bottom left. They can also be used to purchase exclusives, collectables and more from the AC Shop, found in the Academics Hall or in the '''''/me''''' menu by selecting the Shops button in the top left.

== Class Tips ==
* Pay attention to rules at the start of class! While they are generally similar for every class, the exact rules may differ. What is allowed in one Professor’s class may be against the rules in another’s.
* Taking notes during notes classes makes the assignment much easier to complete and excel on. If the notes are going too fast to keep up with, players can message the Professor to ask them to slow down.
* Make sure to read fully through assignment prompts to ensure that an extra quiz question or vital piece of information is not missed.
* In the majority of assignment prompt books, there will be a Frequently Asked Questions section in the back that can answer some common concerns and questions.
* The '''''/rh''''' command can be used to raise the student’s hand, and they can get questions answered by the Class Helpers and Professors. When the student’s hand is picked, a message will be said in chat that contains the student’s name and the name of who picked their hand. The student will then be able to say one message in the class chat to ask their question. If they need to ask another question, they will have to raise their hand again. If a player is uncomfortable asking their question in the class chat, they can private message the Professor or a Class Helper with their question.
* When missing an item they need to complete the class, such as a potion ingredient or the assignment prompt, the player can raise their hand and let the Professor know what specific item they need.
* If a player crashes from class, they can be added back to participate and gain Academic Credits. To be added back, they can message a Class Helper or the Professor or ask to be re-added in global chat.
* When being re-added to Wizard’s PE, the player can inform whoever is adding them what part of the course they were on. This will allow the player to go back to the stage they were on before they crashed. 
* The Class Helper NPCs found in most classrooms give the students access to Book and Quills, a Disposal menu, and an Ender Chest. Students can access the Book and Quills and Disposal menu at any time, but magic must be turned on for the Ender Chest to be accessible.
* If a player is still queued for a game after they join the class, they can do '''''/exit''''' to leave the minigame queue. Doing '''''/leave''''' will cause the player to leave the class instead of the minigame queue.

== Overview ==
The Professor team is part of the [[Academics]] department. Their mission is to provide the most educational and enjoyable magical [[Classes{{!}}classes]] to the students. This team works hard to create lesson plans on topics such as magical creatures, spells, and plants for everyone to learn about. The Professor team also works behind the scenes to create interactive lesson plans to be used, such as collecting your own ingredients in Potions class or feeding some [[Hippogriff (Mob){{!}}Hippogriffs]]! In classes, this team works to provide information about the topic, and grades your assignments based on the effort and creativity!

* Must be at least 16 years old (unless applying through the [https://potterworldmc.com/form/academics-bypass-application.52/select bypass] form)
* You must be able to use Discord with a microphone and be comfortable speaking to others.
* Must have use of your own personal Gmail account.
* You must be level 70 or above on the server. If you reset your account, you must have been at least level 70 before resetting.
* Having a clean record on Potterworld is recommended, but not required.

===== Class Helper =====
Class Helper is the entry rank into the Professor team. It is a trial to become a Professor. They help out in classes, answer questions, enforce rules, as well as interacting with the students! Members have the option of staying in this rank if they do not wish to teach classes themselves.

===== Jr. Professor =====
Jr. Professor inherits most the duties of Class Helpers, but are now able to teach their own classes! They are responsible for creating lesson plans and teaching them to the students. They are also expected to help in classes when no Class Helpers are available.

===== Sr. Professor =====
Jr. Professor and Sr. Professor are very similar, but there is one main difference between the two roles: mentoring! Sr. Professors are allowed to mentor staff members within the team. As a mentor, their job is to help their mentee improve both Academics-wise and as a staff member overall.

===== Academics Advisor =====
The Academics Advisor serves as a bridge between the Professors/Class Helpers and the leadership of the Academics department. They help to organise the team and improve lesson plans Professors make.

===== Academics Lead =====
The Academics Lead works closely with the head of the Academics team. They work to give final approval on interactive lesson plans, make changes to the department seen fit, and even train members of the team.
