Overview
In this year’s spooky twist of events, the Witches’ Coven of Riddleyard was taken over by ghosts. Players ventured around this haunted land to confront the ghosts roaming Riddleyard. During the event, they received Boo Bucks and Spooky Tokens to purchase various items unique to the event. This Halloween event lasted from 15th October to 18th November 2023.
Storyline
The storyline, "A Disquieting Metamorphosis," follows Delphine and Larissa, residents of Riddleyard, as they face their final battle after enduring many challenges. They strive to end the unsettling anomalies plaguing their town, including the mysterious appearance of nine ghostly bosses.
Location
This year’s event was held in the Witches’ Coven of Riddleyard. To get there, players first spoke to the Kevin NPC outside of Hogsworth’s Great Hall before travelling to the Witches’ Coven near Riddleyard’s graveyard.
Quests
This event had one main quest, which introduced the players to the event location. The quest also explained the basics of the event to the players and gave them the specific wand used for the event.
Trouble in Riddleyard
Players were introduced to the Witches’ Coven and Delphine Lune, who sought their help to capture the ghosts terrorising Riddleyard. After receiving an event-specific wand, players were given the first riddle to solve, which led them to the first ghost. Upon locating the ghost named Bob residing in a house, players had to win a game of ‘Think Fast!’ to capture Bob.
Side Quests
There was one side quest in this event which consisted of the 9 Hells Gauntlet. Here, players battled a total of nine different ghosts. By defeating these ghosts, they unlocked various achievements, spells, and collectables.
The Calling Abyss
The barrier between realms had weakened, opening a gateway to the 9 Hells. Those who were brave and powerful enough to attempt closing the rift sought out Larissa Morgan for assistance. Players searched for the ghost NPCs in the Riddleyard catacombs, and with one Spooky Token, they had a chance to battle and defeat a ghost. With the gauntlet, there was also an achievement system.
Upon defeating a ghost, players received a captured ghost, which they could use to purchase either spells or potions. The potions could be used to provide additional defense while battling it out with the ghosts, such as to provide healing, resistance, speed, strength and fire resistance to players. The spells were for a special wand to be used only for the event’s duration. This wand only had a few spells, hence unlocking more spells would help the player defeat more ghosts.
After killing one of each of the nine ghosts, players unlocked the 9 Hells Gauntlet. In a minimum group of three, players could start a round of the 9 Hells Gauntlet, where they faced the boss versions of the ghosts they had killed in the catacombs. In each new round, after spawning in the Gauntlet hub, players chose between three or four random bosses to kill. Each boss had a unique arena and powers, as well as specific strengths and weaknesses to different spells. Players needed to work together as a team to defeat all the bosses within an hour. Additionally, there was a one-time hidden artefact to be found in each boss arena.

Activities
Daily Taskboard
The Daily Task Board allowed players to redeem 15 free Boo Bucks every day during the event, resetting at midnight PST daily. Players could also complete 11 daily activities to earn additional Boo Bucks.

Think Fast!
Think Fast! was the most popular new game show among Riddleyard residents. Players raced to complete four random minigames as quickly as possible while aiming to beat their previous high scores. This activity was repeatable every three hours, and it rewarded Boo Bucks, experience, and one Spooky Token upon completion.
The Minotaur’s Labyrinth
Players needed to investigate the Minotaur's Labyrinth to assist Sarah Hawthorne with her research on Minotaurs. Upon finding evidence, players would be chased by a Minotaur and had to escape the Labyrinth using a compass before getting caught. This activity was repeatable every three hours, and it rewarded Boo Bucks, experience, and one Spooky Token upon completion.
The Tormented Manor
A mysterious creature was prowling Riddleyard's renowned manor, seemingly in search of spell books. Players needed to locate all 5 scattered pages around the manor that the creature was believed to be hunting. Additionally, the manor was filled with spooky traps and jumpscares designed to scare the unwary from finding the mysterious pages. This activity was repeatable every three hours, and it rewarded Boo Bucks, experience, and one Spooky Token upon completion.
When Pumpkins Talk
In a nearby Riddleyard pumpkin patch, a scarecrow needed assistance with maintaining the area. Players had to grab some shears and listen to the story of each pumpkin. Based on the story, players needed to cut a happy, sad, or scared expression on three different pumpkins. Afterwards, they used the Soulsearcher spell to hunt for the ghosts roaming around the pumpkin patch. This activity was repeatable every three hours, and it rewarded Boo Bucks, experience, and one Spooky Token upon completion.
The Haunted Chamber
In Riddleyard, the legend of the Haunted Chamber was well-known. Players needed to uncover more details about the chamber and try to locate it. Once found, players had to gather the ingredients needed for the requested potion according to the recipe book before brewing it. This activity was repeatable every three hours, and it rewarded Boo Bucks, experience, and one Spooky Token upon completion.
Ghostly Security
A Riddleyard resident had a troublesome ghost causing chaos in his house and needed players' help to scare it away using enchanted security cameras. Players first needed to spot the ghost through the house’s security camera and then scare the ghost away using the Soulsearcher spell. This activity was repeatable every three hours, and it rewarded Boo Bucks, experience, and one Spooky Token upon completion.
Beneath the Layers
A grumpy graveyard caretaker, Marlon Erikson, was fed up with ancestral ghosts wreaking havoc in his graveyard and wanted players to get rid of them. Players needed to collect the tools required for the job and then look for green sparks on the graves. Upon locating the correct grave, players had to dig down into the ground using the different tools before scaring the ghosts away. This activity was repeatable every three hours, and it rewarded Boo Bucks, experience, and one Spooky Token upon completion.
Minigames
During the event, players could have participated in 10 different minigames. These minigames were accessible through the Minigames Master NPC, and players earned varying amounts of Boo Bucks based on the difficulty level of each completed minigame.

9 Hells Gauntlet
During the Halloween 2023 event, there was a special Gauntlet named 9 Hells that was released. Along with the Gauntlet were four different categories of achievements that players were able to unlock: The Duelist, The Scholar, The Alchemist, and The Champion. When all the achievements were unlocked, players received a special reward from the collectable NPC.

Contests
During this event, the Media team hosted a PW-tober 2023 Giveaway, which was announced on September 17th, 2023. To enter, players needed to submit any type of artwork interpretations based on the 31 different Halloween-related prompts released through the Potterworld Art Discord. The raffle winner was announced on 31st October 2023, and they received either the Enchanter’s Hat cosmetic or the Resting Raven Staff cosmetic wand appearance. They also received 100 House points and 200 Potter Points for winning the giveaway.
Rewards & Collectables
The following rewards & collectables were obtainable during this event from the various Reward NPCs or via other methods. To obtain each scarf, one needed to defeat that specific boss in the Halloween Gauntlet. To obtain the Cascamorto spell, one needed to obtain all 30 Halloween Gauntlet achievements. Each gear loot bag will give out a random piece of event-themed gear, ranging from Helmet, Hand, Body, Trinket, Leggings, and Boots.
