Overview

Challenges and tournaments are a part of Potterworld’s competitive side. The Arena team is in charge of hosting both challenges and tournaments. There are a variety of competitions players can participate in, including the year-round Flying and Duelling challenges and tournaments. Additionally, there are some seasonal competitions like Plasma Showdown, Star Racing, Rafting, and Sledding. Players can find a full description of Arena Tokens, Seasons, and how challenges and tournaments work below. This information can also be viewed in-game at the Duelling Halls

Each challenge rewards a minimum of five Arena Tokens (AT). Depending on how far the individual or team progresses, the amount of AT given will change. Challenges also reward Gold and Arena Score. Additionally, the individual or team that wins the challenge overall can win House points

Challenges

Challenges are a great way for players to practise before monthly tournaments. The scheduled challenges can be 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4. This goes for both Duelling and Flying, which are hosted year-round, as well as the seasonal styles, which are hosted during specific months. There are scheduled challenges that can be found on the PotterworldMC calendar. Occasional surprise challenges are also held.

Duelling challenges are usually set up in brackets that are randomised. Players duel each other and those who win their bracket move to the next round. Semi-finalists would have to win the best of three matches to move onto the finals. In the finals, players would have to win the best of five duels to become the overall winner. This process also decides who places third. Duelling challenges can also be in styles such as King of the Hill, where players are set to duel one another 1v1, and the winner of the duel moves on to fight the next player. There is also House Dueling, where players duel each other in their own house until there are only four left. These four move on to finals against the other houses. Additionally, there is Knockout Dueling, where players use a wand with specific spells to knock each other off the platform until only one remains.

Flying challenges are set up differently from Duelling challenges. These challenges start with a qualifying race. Depending on how many people are on each team, the number of qualifiers varies from the top 12 fliers to the top six teams. Those who go to the finals will have to fly four different maps to earn points. The number of points given is dependent on what place the individual or team gets. The lowest amount of points each round is zero and the highest is 15.

Throughout the year, seasonal challenge styles are released. This includes Plasma Showdown, Star Racing, Sledding and Rafting. Star Racing is released around the time of May in addition to the May the Fourth event. Plasma Showdown is released at the same time, from May to June, and is a PvP-style challenge. Sledding is a holiday style that is usually released in December. Rafting, which is hosted in July and August, is very similar to Sledding challenges. Star Racing, Sledding, and Rafting all run similar to Flying challenges, which have qualifying races and four additional races to determine the placement of players or teams.

Challenge Tips

Some tips for challenges overall would be finding a team prior to the challenge. This makes the challenge process a lot faster for players and the Arena team. For Duelling challenges, players should set up their wand hot bars before joining. This ensures that players are ready to duel their opponents! Warming up in the Duelling Halls with other duellists is another way to get ready for this type of challenge. For Flying challenges, players should definitely warm up using the Flying minigame. Additionally, players should turn down their render distance if they tend to have lag.

Tournaments

Once a month, tournaments for Duelling and Flying are held. They are run exactly the same as the challenges but at a more competitive and rewarding scale. Tournaments are always held on a Saturday at 12 PM PST. Each month has a different number of players that are required to be on each team, this can be found on the PotterworldMC website

Like challenges, there are also tournaments for seasonal styles like Sledding. They are usually held once or twice, depending on how long the styles are released for. The very first Sledding tournament was held in December 2020, and the first Rafting tournament was held in July 2023.

As mentioned previously, tournaments reward more than challenges. The top four individuals or teams can earn 2.5k-10k Gold and 16-30 Arena Tokens depending on their placing. The overall winners can receive the champion prefix, temporary PvP Crown, and the code to a $5 Potterworld store gift card. Other participants also have a chance at earning Arena Tokens. Those who place first and second also earn House points. Before the store gift card, 500 Potter Points were awarded instead.

Prior to the Revelius update, tournaments held qualifiers before the tournaments themselves. The duelling qualifiers consisted of a Free for All duel where players duelled one another in their respective houses. The top three duellists would then compete in the tournament, which was on a separate date. Those who placed fourth through sixth would be used as a backup in case a competitor could not make the tournament. Flying ran similarly, but a race was held instead of a duel. This is similar to the Flying challenges and tournaments nowadays. The tournaments themselves ran almost identically to the current tournaments.

Tournament Tips

If the tournament needs a team, it is best to plan at least a month in advance. This is because teams can be harder to set up when it is closer to the tournament date. Attending plenty of challenges before the tournament is also very helpful because it gives players a chance to practise their skills in a competitive setting. When it comes to Duelling, players should come prepared with talents pre-selected.

Seasons

Throughout the year, there are four different seasons hosted by the Arena team. Each season lasts three months. This is a time for players to earn Arena Score and compete for the Season Champions for Flying, Duelling, and MVP. In order to earn Arena Score, players must place in the top 4 at challenges. There are three different categories: Flying, Duelling, and Overall. The Arena Score earned for Flying and Duelling add up during the season and turns into the player’s Arena Score. The Overall category is a combination of Arena Score earned from Flying and Duelling challenges. Those who become the Season Champion for Flying and Duelling can earn a special temporary prefix, 15k Gold, 7 USD Potterworld store gift card, collectable with a custom spell, and Arena wand effects. The individual who becomes the Season MVP will win a temporary prefix, 18k Gold, 9 USD Potterworld store gift card, their name on an MVP trophy collectable that has special effects, and the Arena wand effects. Before store gift cards and MVP trophies, Season Champions won Potter Points and a collectable with a custom spell.

Additionally, there is also an Arena Exclusives Shop. There are special rewards that can be bought with Arena Score. The table below shows the rewards that can be earned from Arena Score. The shop gets refreshed every so often with new items in rotation, so some items listed below may not be available from time to time.
