Dark Artefact Creation and Usage
Anyone who creates and uses dark artefacts must abide by these rules:
All dark artefacts must be approved by the Ministry;
All dark artefacts should not cause permanent damage to the user;
Dark Magic forbidden by the Ministry should not be used in the enchantment of the object;
Any wizard who chooses to break these regulations will find their dark artefact destroyed, and face possible sentencing to The Dark Prison.
History
The first draft of the law was created in 1530 by a man named Errol Consoli. He came up with the idea after he had a near-death accident at the age of five. After his mother had walked off, leaving him alone in Diagonal Lane, Errol wandered into an unknown shop. Like any child, he began touching objects that looked interesting to him. This backfired immediately. One object that was particularly shiny caught Errol’s eye, and he went to pick it up. The owner of the shop tried to warn him, but it was too late. Errol was thrown harshly against the wall with a sickening crack. This incident was the catalyst for the following events.
Ten years later, Errol was seen visiting the Ministry of Magicians with a piece of cream parchment in his hand. This was the official first draft of the law. He presented a compelling argument to the Wizencouncil, making sure to include the anecdote from his childhood. Due to the Ministry’s close-minded views, they were very sceptical of listening to a child’s idea; this was what caused them to reject the idea. Errol was dejected and walked out of the Ministry with a frown on his face. However, this didn’t stop him from pursuing the law in the future.
The winter of 1542 hit the magical world like a storm. People struggled to keep themselves warm from the icy temperatures that invaded their homes. Many weak wizards turned to different methods since they couldn't cast powerful enough heating charms. This led to the production and use of several dark artefacts. One of the wizards attempted to create a ball of heat but botched the charm, permanently altering his face.
Later that week, Errol appeared again at the Ministry. This time, however, he had a new version of the law. At that moment, the Ministry attempted to ignore him as they were still investigating the earlier dark artefact event. Errol did not accept this and continued to push until they saw him. Luckily, this time it turned out successful. The Ministry was too tired to try to argue against his proposal and allowed it to be pushed forward towards a full council.
At the end of December, the law was finally passed. Errol left the Ministry, happy that he had finally gotten justice for his younger self. To this day, the law is still heavily monitored. However, a few wizards try to bypass this but ultimately fail.
