Overview
Dragon Scale Disease is an infection that was originally caused by the Fireface Dragon. The disease is mostly known for its ability to cause Dragon Scales to spread across the skin of the wizard that is infected. Depending on how well the wizard cares for themself, the speed at which infection spreads varies.
History
The first record of Dragon Scale Disease was noted down in 1904 by Lawrence Watson. However, it is suspected that this disease dates back to the 1600s. After a particularly lovely interaction with a Dragon, the Fireface Dragon decided to give a small playful bite to Lawrence. Unfortunately, this set off a series of events.
Not long after being bitten, Lawrence began to notice that he was often getting nauseous and dizzy. After about a week, something strange began happening to his skin. Instead of his usual, extremely pale skin, it had started turning into red, rough scales, similar to the Fireface Dragon. Unsure what was happening, he made his way to Merlin’s Magical Hospital in hopes of getting some type of treatment.
The Wiz-Docs tried, and tried, and tried to find a cure to no avail. After many months, Lawrence’s skin slowly transformed completely into scales. He found he would struggle to move due to the thickness and roughness of the scales.
No official cure was found. Instead, the Wiz-Docs of Merlin’s Magical Hospital managed to discover a potion that would slow down the spreading of the scales. This potion needed to be taken every month, otherwise the scales would rapidly spread.
Cause & Symptoms
This disease was originally contracted from the Fireface Dragon via a bite. However, since then, the disease has been passed on from human to Dragon and Dragon to Dragon. Even though it can transfer between Dragons, they only act as a carrier for this disease. Because of this, the disease can be contracted from nearly every Dragon, through something as simple as Dragon drool. The disease does not change based on the Dragon and still will represent the symptoms associated with the Fireface Dragon. Unfortunately, many Dragon tamers contract this disease.
When first contracting this disease, many notice that they become nauseous and dizzy before any other symptoms. These symptoms continue for about a week before it is discovered that one’s skin has begun to turn into scales.
Cure
While there is no cure that will rid the disease completely, there is a singular potion that can slow down the spread of the disease. This potion requires very few ingredients, but all of them are fairly hard to obtain. Each potion must be brewed on a full moon and then taken on the next full moon. Because of this, many choose not to use the potion and let the disease take its course. To brew this potion, you must do as follows:
Ingredients:
- 20 grammes of ash
- 5 Fireface Dragon Scales
- 15 grammes of middlemist red
Steps:
- To begin, set the cauldron up and let water boil for 5 minutes.
- Once the water has boiled, lower the temperature and keep it at a simmer.
- Slowly add in the 5 Fireface Dragon Scales and begin to stir clockwise.
- Grind up the 15 grammes of middlemist red and pour them into the cauldron.
- Stir the concoction 15 times anticlockwise.
- Finally, add in the 20 grammes of ash and stir the potion clockwise 5 times.
- Bottle up the potion and leave it in direct sunlight for 28 days.
When the potion is drunk, it will slow down the spreading of the Dragon Scales. This potion must be drunk by the wizard who is infected for the rest of their life.
Trivia
- Luckily, nobody at Hogsworth is known to have Dragon Scale Disease, but the ingredient Dragon Scale is used to cure students who contract Dragon Plague in the House of the Kind quest.
