Overview

Wands at the Ready is the second quest in the First Year Experience. Throughout the quest, the player accompanies Jeremiah to Duelling class, where they learn how to use their wands and a variety of spells.

Quest Progression

To begin this quest, speak to Jeremiah in the Duelling classroom.

Dialogue

  • [1/3] Whoa! I had no idea the Duelling Hall was right above the Library, wicked!
  • [2/3] You just made it in time, don't tell anyone but I'm really nervous for this lesson... I hope the professor doesn't pick me to volunteer!
  • [3/3] If you are ready you should probably let the professor know we are here. Good luck! Jeremiah nervously bites his nails...

Objective 1 - Speak with the Duelling Professor

Description

Speak to the Duelling Professor to learn about how to use your wand.

Dialogue

  • [1/6] Ah ha! What's this? A new student is it? Marvellous to meet your acquaintance!
  • [2/6] My name is Percy Proust, Hogsworth's Duelling professor, at your service!
  • [3/6] Right, let's get started! First, your wand. Your wand is uniquely yours, and no two wands are alike!
  • [4/6] By hovering your cursor over your wand while inside of your inventory, you can find a bunch of useful information. Some of this includes your wand core and wood. There is also information on how to open your spell inventory and change your spell hotbars.
  • [5/6] Start by holding your wand and open your spell hotbar by using RIGHT CLICK. This will open your wand spell bar. With your spell bar open, you will see your hotbar is replaced by spells that you have learned. Use your number keys to select Calligraphora from your hotbar.
  • [6/6] Now with Calligraphora selected, cast your selected spell with LEFT CLICK.

Objective 2 - Cast Calligraphora

Description

Now it's time to cast your first spell! Look up and cast your first cosmetic spell, Calligraphora!

Speak to the Duelling Professor if assistance is needed in casting or to learn more about cosmetic spells again.

Objective 3 - Speak with the Duelling Professor

Description

After casting Calligraphora, speak to Professor Proust.

Dialogue

  • [1/5] Ah beautiful! Your name has been conjured with magic! That name will go down in the history books one day!
  • [2/5] Now another type of magic you can cast is a Utility Spell.
  • [3/5] These spells affect the environment around us, allowing wizards to access places they normally cannot.
  • [4/5] You have a Utility Spell to open locked doors called Avomora!
  • [5/5] I will conjure a Locked Door for you to practice using your Avomora spell. Select the spell and aim it at the locked door.

Professor Proust raises his wand and mumbles indiscernible encantations...

Objective 4 - Cast Avomora on the Door

Description

Aim at the magically spawned door and cast Avomora.

Speak to the Duelling Professor if assistance is needed in casting or to learn more about utility spells again.

Objective 5 - Speak with the Duelling Professor

Description

Before continuing, Professor Proust would like to have a few words with you.

Dialogue

  • [1/5] Excellent! Witness how it manipulated the world around you!
  • [2/5] The last set of spells are the most dangerous of them all: Combat spells.
  • [3/5] Combat spells are harmful to the unlucky target. There are a multitude of different combat spells that you can eventually learn.
  • [4/5] Some of these include poisoning your enemy, lighting them on fire, or flinging your target back! Just to describe a few.
  • [5/5] Let's have you practice casting Vermillio at the Dummy at the end of the Duelling Table.

Objective 6 - Cast Vermillo at the Dummy

Description

Aim at the conjured Dummy and cast Vermillo at it!

Speak to the Professor Proust if you need assistance in figuring out how to cast again.

Objective 7 - Speak with the Duelling Professor

Description

You have done some practicing with Vermillio! Speak to Professor Proust to find out what to do next.

Dialogue

  • [1/4] Very excellent job! It looks like you might have left some nice dents in that Dummy!
  • [2/4] Hrm, yes, I have decided that you are ready to participate in live combat! I will have you duel another student for the learning experience!
  • [3/4] Let's see... Jeremiah! You have been volunteered to duel [player’s username]!
  • [4/4] Alright, [player’s username], go speak with Jeremiah when you are ready for your first duel!

Objective 8 - Defeat Jeremiah in a Duel

Description

Go speak with Jeremiah when you are ready to duel. Practice duelling with Jeremiah and defeat him with your combat spells!

Dialogue

  • [1/2] What!? Just my luck, the Duelling Professor chose me to go up against you!?
  • [2/2] I... I guess we can give this a shot... Just don't go too hard on me ok? Let me know when you are ready.

Objective 9 - Speak with the Duelling Professor

Description

What an intense duel! Speak with the Duelling Professor to finish the Duelling lesson.

Dialogue

  • [1/3] What a riveting duel! Yes, yes, well done!
  • [2/3] You have quite the knack for this! I foresee you having an adventurous journey full of peril and danger ahead of you!
  • [3/3] That is all I have for your Duelling lesson today! You better check on Jeremiah to make sure he is ok!

Objective 10 - Check on Jeremiah

Description

Go check on how Jeremiah is doing after the duel.

Dialogue

  • [1/2] Wicked, [player’s username]! I never knew you were so good at duelling! If I ever get caught in a duel you will be my second!
  • [2/2] Still, that was enough excitement for me today. Thanks for being my duelling partner! Check your [Class Schedule] for which lesson to join next!

Tips

  • A wand’s spell inventory can be opened by right-clicking while holding the wand.
  • Calligraphora’s icon is blue and looks like a hand pointing a wand to the right.
  • Avomora’s icon looks like a key.
  • Vermillo has a red icon.
