Overview

The Winter Waltz 2023 was held in Africa’s magical school, l’École du Monde Occulte. During this event, players could explore many exciting things that the school offered. Ranging from classes, minigames, quests and even secrets about wandless magic, this event lasted from 1st December 2023 to 8th January 2024. The main currency of this event were Snowflakes, which could be used to purchase exclusive rewards.

Storyline

During this event, players immersed themselves in the excitement of being an exchange student at l’École du Monde Occulte. Upon arrival, players were sorted into one of the school's four houses: Berrora, Resaye, Tuilaiwen, and Yantatte. In addition to various quests, games, and activities, there was a unique 25-day advent calendar where players had to complete a small storyline task each day for a reward.

Location

The Winter Waltz 2023 was held at the School of Magic in Togo, Africa, which was situated deep within the Nok caves and hidden from the public eye. Nestled amidst expansive savannahs and magical creatures, this enchanting event was both warm and unforgettable.

Quests

The Winter Waltz in Togo 2023 featured four main quests, which were located around l’École du Monde Occulte. These quests were primarily storyline-based, allowing players to explore the history of the school and Togo. Additionally, the quests guided players in discovering various locations within the school. Upon completion of these quests, players received Snowflakes, experience, as well as a Choco Hop Box containing a random card based on l’École du Monde Occulte.

Collegiate Cliffside

This year, Togo's wizarding school, l’École du Monde Occulte, opened a temporary exchange program with Hogsworth students. Participants travelled to Togo, climbed up a cliff to reach the entrance of the school, and were sorted into their houses for the event. Afterwards, they settled into their common rooms and got to know their Heads of House.

The Thawing of a Cold Heart

With the dance just around the corner, Professor Edoh had been worrying about Felix Kondo, the star student at l'École du Monde Occulte, who didn’t seem to be in good spirits. When approached, Professor Edoh shared his concerns, explaining that Felix, usually full of energy and enthusiasm, had been distant and preoccupied in recent days. Despite the upcoming festivities, Felix had not been his usual self, and Professor Edoh wondered if something was troubling him. He hoped that players were able to find a way to lift Felix’s spirits before the big night.

Mysteries in Histories

Players had to attend two different History classes to learn more about l'École du Monde Occulte and Togo. After receiving their class schedules from their Head of House, players needed to complete the activities assigned by the professor to piece together various historical details from the lessons.

History in the Making

After attending the basic History classes, players were required to attend an advanced History class. Additionally, they needed to prepare for an Exhibition of Magical Togolese History by setting up a booth with items they had selected during their field trip to an African market.

Side Quests

The Winter Waltz 2023 featured three repeatable side quests, available to players every 12 hours. These side quests were designed to be more simple and relaxing compared to the main quests, offering additional exploration and knowledge of the school. Upon completion, players received Snowflakes, experience, and a random Choco Hop Box from l’École du Monde Occulte.

Safari Tour

During this side quest, players were able to choose different safari locations from around l'École du Monde Occulte. In each location, players had 2 minutes to take pictures of the different animals which resided within the safari. Players had a photo album where they could keep track of the types of animals that they had collected.

The Magic of Gift Giving

Similar to the A Gift to Share activity in the Winter Waltz 2022, this side quest allowed players to gather the materials needed to craft a gift. They could choose their preferred wrapping paper and type of ribbon. Once the choices were made, players crafted their gift box. The completed gift could be given to other players, which had a chance to contain 1 of 10 different items. Each item varies in rarity, ranging from more common items like the Peppermint Brownies to rare ones like the 2023 Calendar.

Decorating Monde Occulte

This side quest allowed players to decorate locations around the school for the Winter Waltz festivities. The various locations included the four different common rooms as well as classrooms within the school. Players needed to craft the decorations in the Head of House office before heading to the designated locations to complete the decorating.

Activities

The Winter Waltz 2023 featured three unique activities exclusive to the event. These activities offered both additional unlockable rewards and enjoyment for players. Depending on the activity, some could be completed only once per day, while others could be repeated continuously. Each completed activity rewarded snowflakes, experience, and a random Choco Hop Box from l’École du Monde Occulte.

Advent Calendar

The Advent Calendar featured 25 riddles, each unlocked once per day until 25 December. In these riddles, players needed to search for NPCs around the school based on the clues provided. Each completed riddle rewarded players with Snowflakes, experience, and a random Choco Hop Box from l’École du Monde Occulte. Upon completing all 25 days of the Advent Calendar, players were able to unlock a special reward.

Frigid Fixing

Frigid Fixing was a timed repair game that involved shrinking the player to fit inside a magical snow globe. Inside the snow globe, players needed to gather materials to repair broken parts. The more repairs players completed, the more Frozen Glue they would earn. This activity could be played repeatedly, and a special Enchanted Holiday Harp was unlocked once players accumulated 750 Frozen Glue.

Hide and Seek Champion

In the Headmistress' office, there was a tank where Pierre, her Murtlett pet, could be found. However, Pierre loved to explore the school and frequently escaped. Whenever he slipped out, the Headmistress offered a reward to the player who found him. Every eight hours, Pierre would escape from his tank, and players had six hours to locate the Murtlett around the Monde Occulte map. There were three tiers of hidden Pierre: Easy, Medium, and Hard, each offering different amounts of House points, Snowflakes, and Choco Hop Boxes.

Stargazing

Stargazing was a repeatable activity where players used l'École du Monde Occulte's telescope to search for stars. Players needed to memorize the hidden locations of the Blue Stars and distinguish them from the Yellow Stars. By collecting enough Blue Stars, they could unlock a special Stargazing Trophy as a reward.

Minigames

This event featured 13 different minigames that players could participate in to earn Snowflakes, which were used to purchase event rewards. The minigames included mazes, parkours, droppers, and ice skating.

Daily Taskboard

The Daily Taskboard provided players with more opportunities to earn Snowflakes. Each task could be completed only once per day and reset daily at midnight PST.

Contests

The annual Winter Minigames Tournament was held for 3 consecutive weeks, with each week being a different Winter Waltz minigame. The winner of each tournament was announced on January 14th, 2025, and they were given 500 Potter Points, 10,000 Gold, as well as different prefixes, and an all-exclusive white wand effect which is only available through winning the December’s Winter Waltz tournaments.

Rewards & Collectables

The Winter Waltz 2023 offered a wide variety of rewards that could be purchased with Snowflakes obtained from various quests, activities, and games. Rewards and collectables could be bought at the stalls near the entrance of the school from different NPCs. In addition to the collectables available for purchase with Snowflakes, there were two special items obtainable through specific activities: Frigid Fixing and Stargazing. Additionally, players could acquire ten unique collectables through the Magic of Gift side quest by making gifts during the event.

Flaming Penguin	Creature This creature is native to the state Angola, which is in the southwest of Africa, but they can also be found in the Sahara desert. Their fur is a shade of brown and they are able to emit fire from their throats. These creatures are also known to be quite temperamental.	Uncommon
Nandi Bear	Creature Native to western Kenya, the Nandi Bear is a mammalian predator. It is similar looking to a hyena, except this creature has shaggy, reddish fur and is nocturnal. This creature avoids contact with humans, and is deemed incredibly dangerous.	Uncommon
Abara the Ghost	Unknown Abara is a ghost that resides around the school. Not much is known about him or how he died. His name means 'spirit' in Ibo, the language of the Igbo residents of Nigeria. Abara is rather grumpy, however, he has a soft spot for Professor Potatao, who he calls Tao for short.	Uncommon
Peter Whittaker	1995 - Present With a friendly smile always on his face, Peter Whittaker is almost always available to give tours in the wilderness around École du Monde Occulte. He is eager to educate anyone on the wondrous creatures of the area and is known to frequently talk students' ears off about his favourite animals!	Common
Hiraya Teh	1960 - Present Hiraya is the History 324 Professor, teaching students about the History of Togolese Magical Resistance. She is originally from the Philippines, but moved to Togo, Africa, to further her career in 1992. Hiraya belongs to the La Maison de l'Action house.	Common
Professor Potatao	Unknown Although he is a ghost, Professor Potatao teaches the students of Monde Occulte about Ghoul Studies. He is a jolly fellow, with a grey, translucent beard. It is unclear when he was born, but he has been around for a few hundred years, teaching many students.	Common
Shashi Shaan	1977 - Present Responsible for keeping the library archives neat and tidy, Shashi is known to be extremely friendly to all students who enter their precious library. Students can always identify them by their turquoise hair ribbon and their sweet Indian accent.	Common
Professor Mondragon	1990 - Present Determined to learn everything she could about Dragons led Professor Mondragon to pursue a degree in Magical Creature Studies. She later was offered a role at École du Monde Occulte to teach students. Alongside this, she actively spreads awareness about the LGBTQ+ community.	Common
Jansher Wardak	1988 - Present Originating from Afghanistan, Jansher is the History 562K Professor at Monde Occulte, specialising in Modern Togolese Occurences and Events. Students are forever complimenting his eyes, as they are a light shade of blue.	Common
Professor Ouro	1975 - Present Known for being a super positive guy, Ouro is the school's Herbology professor. He is extremely proud of his classroom, and can usually be found expressing this to anyone he crosses paths with. His office is always tidy, yet each week a new plant appears.	Common
Akoete Tchalim	1956 - Present Growing up and attending Monde Occulte in Togo, Africa, Akoete had a goal to one day become a professor. They achieved this goal and became the History 448 Professor for Anthropology of Modern Togolese Culture and Identity.	Common
Professor Jimoh	1971 - Present Known for always looking stern, Jimoh is actually one of the sweetest people at the school. She is a Transfiguration professor, and takes great pride in her work. Although she tends to treat her graduate students more sternly, her love for all her students is endless.	Common
