House Pride CE, March 2022

Overview

The House Pride-themed Community Engagement event took place between the 28th of March and the 3rd of April. Players celebrated the students and graduates of the four Hogsworth houses by participating in activities, brewing potions, working together to escape a challenging series of rooms in the House Trials, and more.

House Pride Parade

In this activity, players began the activity in an apartment. They were given pancakes to celebrate International Pancake Day. Once they received their pancakes, the players could go outside and explore the wonderful House Pride Parade. Players had to talk to each house’s representative animal, located on the festival floats, and complete their puzzle or trivia in order to receive potion ingredients to brew the House Pride Potion. Additionally, players could explore the House Pride Parade venue, purchase collectables from the parade shops, and visit the park afterwards. In the park, players could help a friendly Towns Person clean up the fountain and flower bed, and do parkour to earn gold.

The House Trials

In the other activity, the players of each house had to work together to escape various rooms designed to test the abilities of their houses. First, the players started off in their house’s introductory rooms. They each had a special ability depending on which house they belonged to. Honeybadgers could find hidden items and navigate their way through mazes, Ravens could figure out puzzles by reading books and deciphering the codes, Griffins could see invisible parkours, and Serpents could speak to snakes which gave them hints.

Once the players completed their introductory rooms, they were taken to a large room; the Griffins room. There was an invisible parkour which only Griffins could see, so it was their job to help guide the other players through the parkour and to the next door. The second door took them to the Serpents room. In the Serpents room, there were three sets of three wooden bridges. Most of them were unsteady and could not be crossed, but the snakes which only the Serpents could talk to would hint which bridge was safe to cross. There was also a small room, covered in leaves and foliage, on the right side of the Serpents room which had a hidden skull collectable in it, as well as a snake which told Serpents an important colour code for another door they would need to unlock later on. The next room, behind the fourth door, was the Honeybadger room. This room contained a large maze which only the Honeybadgers could see the way through. The Honeybadgers could see the yellow particles which took them to chests that contained items. After all three items were found, the fifth and final door, the Raven door, was opened. In the previous three rooms, the Ravens could find and read books which contained a secret message. The three letters in the books spelled the word “KEY” and these letters could be translated to runes. There were three sets of three doors on each floor, and every player had to go through the correct door to ascend to the next floor. Each door was labelled with a rune letter and the player had to pick the door with the correct rune letter that translated to K, E, Y. However, if one player chose an incorrect door, everyone was taken back to the start of the Raven room.

Once the Raven room was completed, the players were taken back outside of the House Trials castle. They could talk to the Droobledore NPC and were given a wand box. The wand box could give them one of the five wand collectables: The Griffin Housemaster Wand, Raven Housemaster Wand, Honeybadger Housemaster Wand, Serpent Housemaster Wand, or the rarest of all five; the Replica of the Dark Lord's Wand.
