Butterbeer Festival 2015

Overview

For the 2015 Butterbeer Festival event, which occurred from September 11th, 2015 through October 4th, 2015, players were able to celebrate the autumn season with Potterworld’s version of Oktoberfest. Carket Market and the other streets in magical London were decorated with autumn colours. There were also a variety of collectables and a writing contest.

Storyline

There was no overarching storyline for the event.

Location

The main event hub was in the magical part of London. Buildings in Carket Market and Diagonal Lane were adorned with autumn-themed garlands and autumn colours. Tables loaded with tankards of butterbrew were scattered about for players to relax at.

Activities

Butterbeer Trials

There were a series of competitions that Head Staff participated in for players to watch on a Twitch live stream. For the first challenge, Head Staff battled in a Pub Quiz, which featured Harry-Potter-themed trivia questions. For the second challenge, Head Staff competed in a Potato Sack Race. In teams, they had to manoeuvre past obstacles and head to the finish line the fastest. For the third and final challenge, Head Staff had to navigate to the centre of a Corn Maze. One team member would give directions to the other, who was in the maze. The winners were awarded the title of “Fest Mast Frau”.

Contests

Creative Writing Contest

There was one accompanying contest that was hosted alongside the event. Players had two weeks to submit a story based in the Potterworld realm. This story needed to involve at least one staff member and follow additional requirements such as meeting a 2,000 to 20,000 word limit. Submissions closed on September 18th, 2015, and the winners were announced on October 2nd, 2015.
