Overview
The 2017 Halloween event took place in October from the 24th to the 31st. Players could receive exclusive collectables, participate in exciting competitions, contests, and activities, and enjoy the beautifully redecorated server as they pleased.
Storyline
The main focus of this event was the town beside Riddle Manor. Around 19 of the residents desperately needed assistance with the shenanigans that inherently appear around Halloween every year. Luckily, several helpful players came to their assistance.
Location
The Great Hall Courtyard was decorated, as usual, with pumpkins far beyond the size of players. There was even a campfire set up to tell spooky stories to fearful first years.
The bulk of the event took place in a separate map, beside Riddle Manor in the graveyard. Tents were set up with orange and black tarps, a giant cauldron, and plenty of spooky activities to do around the manor and graveyard.
Some of the storyline took place in the Dungeons, where the ghosts had set up a spectacular spooky ball for the players to interact with, and other parts of the event were around the town.
Quests
The quests during the 2017 Halloween event were all repeatable, allowing players to come back each day to collect more Event Tokens to spend at the several booths on the special collectables and rewards. Each quest could be repeated every 24 hours and awarded Event Tokens.
Halloween Horror Story
Players could find Alice at the very start of their journey standing in the middle of the graveyard over a cauldron. According to her, if she brewed a special potion on Halloween night, something would rise out of the cauldron. To find out if it’s true, she enlisted the players’ help and sent them off to collect the ingredients she needed.
The Walking Dead
Zombies raged outside the town of Riddle Manor during the Halloween event of 2017. Hundreds, if not thousands, sprang from the crop fields and graveyards. In desperation, Egon, a townsman who calls out to players passing by, asked the players to help him get rid of the zombies.
Forest Frights
Odd occurrences in Riddle Manor’s neighbouring forest had become an issue right around Halloween. Upon the town folks' request, players were to enter into the wood and discover what had been keeping the villagers up at night
Mysterious Sounds
Francine, a resident living near Riddle Manor, was struggling to sleep due to the noise outside her manor at night. Being the only one awake, she was too terrified to investigate any further, and so she requested players’ help.
The Awakening
One of the town’s most prominent witches, Freya, had discovered the cause of the awakened ghosts floating about the graveyard. As it turned out, a handful of Dark Followers had awoken a great beast below the graveyard in the catacombs, and as a result, its roars shook the ground. By extension, the ghosts came out of their graves. Players needed to help her fight the ghosts.
Ghostly Gifts
Jerald, one of the more poetic residents of the town, invited players to help him spend Halloween in a more respectful manner. To him, Halloween meant paying tribute to those who had gone before him, and in order to do so he asked the players to help him take roses to the graves in town while he took his own son trick-or-treating.
Party Tonight
Malkey, another town citizen, was planning a Halloween party, but with so few days left before Halloween and so little prepared, he requested the players’ help.
Odd Happenings
Strange things had been happening in Manny and his mother’s home since moving in. The lawns mowed themselves, the two returned to spotless rooms despite being out all day, and the interior had painted itself. Creeped out beyond belief, the two turned to the players for help, and asked them to investigate the disturbances.
Poison Perils
Karina, Melody’s little sister, had been poisoned by a wicked monster. As her body was too weak to do much of anything anymore, Melody begged the players for help. She could not leave Karina’s bedside, but if the players could help her to collect the necessary medicines, she could save her sister’s life.
Fearful Ghost Tears
Mr. Grimm was in the midst of brewing a dreadful potion, and in the process realised he had run out of Ghost Tears. To complete his brewing process, he would need more, and could not stop stirring the pot until he had enough. With the players help, he was able to brew his potion.
Tunnel of the Lost Items
Halloween was coming up fast, and Naomi’s parents ordered her to go out and buy some decorations for the big night. However, what with the dark and scary path she had to travel through in order to get to the store, she was too terrified to go. She enlisted players who passed by to collect them for her.
High Demand
The baker, Sophie, ran out of ingredients for her top-seller: ghost-shaped pumpkin pasties. Players were instructed to help her collect them before the long line of customers began to complain about the wait.
Last Minute Shopping
Tiberius’s house had been covered, roof to foundation, in toilet paper by mischievous witches and wizards as a trick, not a treat. While he busied himself with cleaning off the roof, he forgot to purchase candy for trick-or-treaters. With the players help, he could have the best of both worlds: a spotless house and happy trick-or-treaters to boot.
Missing Pumpkin Pouch
Just before setting out to trick-or-treat, Wrigley noticed that their beloved Pumpkin Pouch had gone missing. Their family had used Pumpkin Pouches every Halloween as tradition, so they tearfully begged players to help them find it.
Restoration of the Graveyard Church
The church in the graveyard had been ruined by stormy weather and natural disaster. So much so, that the rest of the village had begun to look bad, and property value was decreasing. Dan, a concerned citizen, requested the players’ help in collecting some materials to help him fix it in time for Halloween.
Stolen Candy
Toby’s candy had been stolen by a bully who refused to return it. Players made a deal with him- if they found the bully and got the candy back, Toby would split it with them.
Graveyard Troubles
Trina’s diadem had been lost beside Riddle Manor. While normally she wouldn’t ask for help, every time that she tried to pick it up, it disappeared again. Without the players’ help, she couldn’t retrieve it.
Costume Crisis
With no costume to speak of, Haley was positively catatonic over what she would do during Halloween night. In order to save Haley’s night and preserve the tradition of trick-or-treating, players had to help her assemble her costume in time.
A Daunting Dare
The town citizen Dave was a well-known daredevil. Players who walked up to him were dared to find hidden messages within the haunted mansion. These riddles were rumoured to be placed there long ago by the spirits of the dead. If the player was brave enough to complete the task, Dave would pay them his dues in Event Tokens, and they would be able to come back the next day to try and beat his dare once more.
Side Quests
There were no side quests during this event.
Activities
The activities for this event included a search-and-find, maze, dropper, parkour, and competition.
Candy Bags
30 candy bags were hidden around the riddle map. If a player found one and right-clicked to collect it, they received 1 Event Token (and would then be able to turn in their candy bags for House points) every 24 hours.
Halloween Maze
The Halloween maze was a spookify-ing twisty turn-about that led players astray while simultaneously allowing them to rack up Event Tokens, should they complete it successfully.
Halloween Dropper
The Halloween dropper offered players the terrifying task of falling feet-first through a haunted house. If they were successful, they were rewarded with Event Tokens a-plenty for their efforts.
Halloween Parkour
The Halloween parkour was a challenge to many. Some flew through like bats out of hell to get their Event Tokens. Others fell to their doom innumerable times. In the end, only the successful players received the Event Tokens they craved.
House Points Competition
Based on the number of candy bags that players collected, each house was awarded House points. In the end, Honeybadger came in 1st, Serpent 2nd, Raven 3rd, and Griffin 4th.
Contests
Two contests took place during the 2017 Halloween event.
The first, the Halloween Short Story Contest, was released on October 10th and was hosted by the Potterwatch team. The contest required its participants to create a short story, themed around Halloween on Potterworld. The contest winner, Advanced_Yoshi, not only had their short story made into a video, but also was given a hat of their choice from Potterworld’s store.
The second, the Social Media Skin Contest, was released on October 22nd, and was held via livestream on the PotterworldMC Youtube channel on October 28th. The winner, MyselfAndI_, who came dressed up as a unicorn received the Halloween Emote Package as a reward.
