Overview
Toymaker Tobias runs the incredibly popular Build-A-Plush Workshop on the lower-east-end of Hogsend. Families all across the UK have come to his shop to create their own toys. Build-A-Plush Workshop has been a financial cornerstone of Hogsend, as Tobias often buys his materials from other local businesses. Most residents of Hogsend cannot remember a time before the Build-A-Plush Workshop was open, bringing children amusement.
Even though he is an important part of the Hogsend community, very little is known about his past. Most of what we know does not come from Tobias himself, but from the town’s historical records. Even his last name had to be revealed by these records: Tobias Sevistians. In their prime, the Sevistians family was incredibly wealthy and their descendents made up over half of the wizarding upper class, even through the wizarding wars. However, direct descendents of the Sevistians were thought to have died-out and, when brought up, Tobias tends to become paranoid and withdrawn. As this is a sharp contrast from his sunny disposition, most have refrained bringing up the subject out of respect for Tobias.
Though nothing is known about his life before then, Tobias entered the toy-making business in his thirties. Despite his old age, Tobias still works long days at his workbench to create the items in his shop. His dedication to his craft can be seen in his calloused and nicked up hands. Usually refraining from working the register, he prefers to spend time in his workshop thinking up exciting and new toys.
The community views Tobias as a leader due to his generous and demure personality. Hogsend values loyalty over all else, even above profit, and Tobias embodies this culture. One commonly referenced anecdote is that of the workshop tin-vasion. Ever dedicated to his craft, he attempted to make lifelike tin soldiers, even going so far as to carve runes into them. When he returned to his shop the next day, the tin soldiers were having a war inside, with some crumpled piles of the soldiers who had fallen in battle.
As an NPC, Tobias is met during the Build-A-Plush Toyshop quest when Sara and Jaylen need the player to make a plushie in Tobias’ shop. Tobias teaches the player how to craft the plushie and gives them access to the toymaking station.
