Yule Ball 2015

Overview

For the 2015 Yule Ball event, which occurred from December 19th, 2015 through January 3rd, 2016, players were able to celebrate the holiday season at the Beauxbois Academy of Magic. There were a variety of fun activities including a speech from Droobledore and a fashion show.

Storyline

There was not a storyline for this event.

Location

The main event hub was at the Beauxbois Academy of Magic. The build included a grand, white castle, a unicorn fountain, and an assortment of carriages. Festive holiday garlands and shrubbery adorned the walls and courtyard grounds, an enormous Christmas tree stood tall by the castle’s entrance, and there was a grandiose dance hall with food-filled tables along its outer edges.

There were no quests in the event.

Side Quests

There were no side quests in the event.

Activities

Staff Dance

This activity launched off the event with a short speech from Droobledore. Afterwards, staff members got to perform a special dance in front of players at the dance hall.

Tinsel Trivia

Four interactive trivia classes were hosted simultaneously. Players competed with Christmas-themed and Harry-Potter-themed trivia questions and were able to earn Academic Credits, House points, and additional prizes.

Photobooth

During the opening ceremony, players could have their photos taken by a staff member. All photos taken were uploaded to the Potterworld Facebook page and website.

Dance Class

Four dance classes were hosted simultaneously. Players got their groove on with some holiday cheer and were able to earn Academic Credits, House points, and additional prizes.

Contests

Duelling Competition

Instead of a round-robin style, players competed against each other in a one-on-one bracket style. To enter, players dropped their name into Donation Chests at each House’s Common Room; however, there were some prerequisites, such as being at least Year Four, and sign-ups were first-come, first-serve. The competition was held on December 19th, 2015. The top three winners gained a wand appearance and, potentially, Galleons.

Skin Competition

The Yule Ball Fashion Show was a skin contest held to show off skins from four categories: Winter Apparel, Swimwear, Formalwear, and Cosplay. To enter, players had to fill out a Google Form by December 18th, 2015. The competition was held on December 19th, 2015. Afterwards, players voted for their favourites of each category using a poll. The winners of each category each received a hat of their choice.

Instagram Competition

To enter, players uploaded a photo of themselves, or with friends at the Yule Ball to Instagram with the hashtag #potterworldmc.

Rewards & Collectables

We have a small list of recorded collectables from this event. When players found 12 Holiday Peppermints after following riddles, they received a Holiday Riddle Scarf.

There were no new releases on the store, however, there was a Christmas Sale, which made every item 50% off for 24 hours.
