Gold

Gold is one of the most important things for a player to earn through their time on Potterworld. One can use Gold to buy many things such as collectables. Gold also helps with assisting a player in quests, helps one in building their housing, and more! It is the main currency of the server, and it is essential that Gold is used wisely. Gold can be viewed on the Scoreboard on the side of one's screen. Do be mindful that it may not immediately update though, while viewing one's balance in chat does.

Each time a player receives Gold, they are notified about it in chat. Then, one can check the Gold balance with many commands. These commands include: /bal, /ac, /balance, and /money.

Gaining Gold

There are many ways to earn Gold, as listed below.

Completing Quests

Completing quests across the 80-level journey on Potterworld gives each player an enormous amount of Gold. From the first quest, First Year Struggles, rewarding 5 Gold, to the final level 80 quest rewarding 1,481, the quests are key to currency on the server. You can see all quest rewards on the Quests page.

Daily Activities

Many daily activities reward players with Gold when they are redeemed. These daily activities can be accessed by doing /daily or /me -> Daily Activities. Minigame activities provide 20-40 Gold depending on the activity, and Miscellaneous activities provide 10-100 Gold. Each reward can be claimed once in a PST day.

Daily Riddles

Daily riddles are accessible once every 24 hours, from a Tommy Riddle NPC. These Tommy Riddle NPCs are found throughout the map, in notable towns. The most notable Tommy Riddle NPC is right next to the Hogsworth Warp Key warp. A player has to click the NPC for a riddle, and upon completion, receive a Gold reward. Riddles provide 5 to 113 Gold, depending on the level of the riddle.

Minigames

Parkours and mazes are scattered around the wonderful map! They all reward varying levels of Gold upon completion. The locations of all parkour and mazes are indicated on the website map. Each minigame is indicated by a purple archery target.

Selling Items in Player Shops

Players can sell items in their shop if they do not wish to sell these to the Vendor. To open the shop menu, the command /shop is used. There, stock is able to be deposited and the shop can be be managed. At a player's housing, the command /house shopkeeper spawns a shopkeeper at the location where a player is standing. Once this shopkeeper is created, other players can access the housing and buy items through the shopkeeper.

Alternatively, players can buy items from player shops through the central Vertick Alley Marketplace. This marketplace combines all player shop items, to give the buyer the best possible option.

Trading with a Vendor

Many items can be traded with a Vendor NPC for Gold. You can view more about this on the Vendor page.

Trading Academic Credits (AC)

You can obtain Academic Credits (AC) from attending classes. Trading AC for Gold is a sure-fast way to gain Gold! Every 10 AC converts to 200 Gold, if one does not wish to spend the AC on XP instead. One can trade AC for Gold with the Credits Trader NPC in the Trophy Room. The Trophy Room is entered via the door at the back of the Great Hall, behind the professor's table.

Voting Tokens

Voting Tokens can be traded with the Token Shop NPC in the aforementioned Trophy Room! Every 180 voting tokens equate to 200 Gold. Players can do /vote in-game to bring up the links for voting and must make sure they are online when voting.

Using Gold

It’s one thing to gain Gold, but what will it be used on? Here are some of the most common ways Gold is spent.

NPC Shops

There are shops in notable towns, such as Hogsend and London, which sell interesting items for Gold. For example, the joke shop sells some interesting Dungbombs for PVP locations, as well as a harp that plays beautiful music!

Player Shops

Just as how one can make Gold by selling items in their shop, items can also be bought from other players. Player shops can be accessed by travelling to a player’s housing and interacting with their shopkeeper, or through the Vertick Alley Marketplace. There, there are multiple categories of items to explore, and on first click, the marketplace will give the best price.

Quests

Some quests require players to buy items or provide NPCs with Gold to continue. These quests require from as little as 5 Gold to as much as 1000 Gold to proceed.

History

Back when the server was released in May 2014, currency was stored in the form of Knuts, Sickles, and Galleons. These were physical items. There were 29 Knuts to a Sickle, and 17 Sickles to a Galleon. Later in 2015 Galleons were converted to Gold, and the physical currency was no longer used. However, they are still nice collectables to keep hold of or scout for!

In the January 2023 Development Blog post, the Soulshard Wars minigame was disabled; this had rewarded 60 Gold for first place, 50 Gold for second place, 40 Gold for third place, and 30 Gold for fourth place.
