Yule Ball 2016

Overview

The 2016 Yule Ball event was held at the Dormunstrad Institute of Magic where players could buy several specialised collectables, enjoy the challenging activities, and participate in several contests. It ran from December 17th, 2016 to January 8th, 2017

Storyline

There was no overarching storyline for this event.

Location

The 2016 Yule Ball was held at the Dormunstrad Institute of Magic. This gigantic castle had a Great Hall that was even lengthier than Hogsworth’s. There were tables lining the ice-covered centre-aisle where players danced the night away beneath gargantuan fir trees decorated with ornaments and garlands. To get there, players travelled by boat and spent the event running through the wooden stronghold’s mile-high vaulted roofs towards their host’s classrooms and kitchens where they learned about the traditions of Dormunstrad students and teachers.

Activities

There were multiple different activities that players could complete and participate in during this event.

24-hour Classes Event

As a special event, a class was held on the hour, each hour for 24 hours during the Yule Ball- a surefire boost to lots of players’ Academic Credits.

Snowballing

Snowballing, a seasonal PvP minigame, was enabled in /games, which rewarded Snowflakes to players which they could then use to buy the collectables for this event.

Wand Spleef

Another PvP seasonal minigame, Wand Spleef, was also enabled and rewarded Snowflakes.

Contests

There were six competitions associated with the 2016 Yule Ball.

House Decorating Competition

The House Decorating Competition was available for players of all levels. It was judged based on decoration and build, and the top three players of each category were given prizes.

Creative Writing Competition

The Creative Writing Competition was based around the Yule Ball, and several players’ pieces were reviewed according to whose piece best suited the prompt. Those who did were given prizes.

Instagram Competition

In this competition, players were required to take and post pictures of themselves at Dormunstrad. The top three best pictures were selected and given rewards for their entries.

Dance Competition

There was a special live dance competition where players competed by strutting their stuff on the dance floor. The winner was rewarded thoroughly for their sick moves.

Skin Competition

There was a live skin competition as well, where players were judged based on their skin's quality and adherence to the following categories: Winter Clothing, Formal Clothing, Animal, Superhero, and Harry Potter Character. Winners were honoured by special Yule Ball awards.

Duelling Tournament

The 2016 Yule Ball event included a 5v5 Duelling Tournament as well.

Rewards & Collectables

There were tons of special collectables for this event, including fancy new winter holiday-themed hats, wands, and heads.
