Overview
Dormunstrad is a magical school found in Northern Europe. It was founded by a witch called Nadia Voldsund during the Middle Ages and has since been attended by many young wizards and witches. The location of the school is characterised by the chilly weather of Northern Europe, with Dormunstrad’s castle being nestled amongst snowy mountains and built upon an ice lake. Dormunstrad is one of the three magical schools that partake in the recurrent Interwizard Tournament, along with Hogsworth and Beauxbois.
Dormunstrad is notorious for its curriculum that focuses on Dark Arts. Furthermore, the students of Dormunstrad are infamous for being powerful, ambitious, and strong, since the school’s curriculum also focuses on duelling and physical education. Due to Dormustrad’s traditionally held prejudice against the mundane, Unmagicals are forbidden from attending Dormunstrad and learning magic. Because of this, Unmagical sports and recreational activities are also looked down upon.
From the school’s founding until the late 1990s, Dormunstrad had been regarded as an impressive and prestigious institution in the magical world. However, their headmaster for the latter half of the 20th century was notorious for being cruel, terrifying, and strict, became an unsettling figure for the school and caused Dormustrad’s reputation to worsen.
The magical school of Dormunstrad has been featured in many events on Potterworld. Most notable are the annual Winter Waltz events that the server hosts in celebration of the holiday season. However, the school was also featured in Potterworld’s 7th Anniversary 2021 event, where Dormunstrad was one of the locations players could visit.
Geography & Environment
Dormunstrad is located amongst the jagged mountains of Northern Europe and is magically hidden. The castle is positioned on a small snow-covered mound that is also situated over an ice lake. The exterior of the castle is influenced by northern European architecture, featuring both sharp and curved roofs. The castle’s exterior is grand but also forbidding and plain, reflecting the strict values of the school. The exterior also features large arches, bridges, and a multitude of turrets that are made out of stone bricks and dark wood. The front of the school features a clean-cut stone staircase that leads to the school’s entrance and two large bell towers.
The interior reflects that of the exterior, being mostly plain and bare. The corridors of the castle are mostly empty, their only notable features being the red and grey carpet that line the hallways and the large arched windows that showcase the icy and mountainous landscape. The general climate of Dormunstrad reflects that of Northern Europe, being extremely cold and snowy.
Notable Locations
Dormunstrad Boat
The Dormunstrad Boat is a notable location for this magical school since the boat is used to transport its students. Despite the forbidding and plain appearance of the Dormunstrad castle, the Dormunstrad boat is an object of opulence. The exterior of the boat features white overflowing sails that showcase a red outline of Dormunstrad’s coat of arms, a double-headed eagle. Furthermore, the exterior is gilded in gold, emphasising the majestic grandeur of the vessel. The gold details and white sails contrast greatly with the dark wood that makes up the substantial hull. The inside of the vessel is bare, mostly featuring the same dark wood that makes up the outside. However, there are also cabins and a small dining area within the Dormunstrad boat.
Central Dining Hall
The Central Dining Hall of Dormunstrad is also a notable feature of the magical school and is where its students eat their meals. The large hall features overhanging black chandeliers that provide light over its four long dining tables. At the back of the hall, there is a slightly raised section where the staff of Dormunstrad also take their meals. On the wall behind this area, there is a large banner that showcases Dormunstrad’s coat of arms.
