Overview

The first in the Woodshire quest line, A Puzzling Patient sees the player travelling to Merlin’s Magical Hospital on a work experience field trip with the Magical Career Exploration Professor.

Quest Progression

To start this quest, players must speak to Professor Cassidy, the Magical Career Exploration Professor, in her classroom on the second floor of Hogsworth’s Grand Staircase.

• [1/3] Good morning, (player’s name). Glad you could join us for the Merlin's Magical Hospital excursion!
• [2/3] I got your permission slip, so you're all set. Just make sure you're completely ready before we head for the hospital.
• [3/3] You're the last of your classmates to arrive, so we're ready to get started whenever you are. What do you say? You ready?
  

Objective 1 -Head to Merlin’s Magical Hospital

Description

Professor Cassidy has organised a field trip to Merlin's Magical Hospital for you and your classmates. She's prepared a Warp Key for you to use to get there in her classroom.

• [1/4] Perfect! Alright, listen up students! So, Merlin's Magical Hospital employees have been kind enough to let us spend the day at the hospital observing the work they do there.
• [2/4] You'll each be assisting one of the doctors in treating a patient. Handling paperwork, retrieving objects, nothing too extreme.
• [3/4] I expect you'll be on your best behaviour while we're there. You're representing Hogsworth, after all.
• [4/4] Okay, let's head out! We'll be using a Warp Key to take us directly to the hospital. It's just behind you on the desk. I'll follow behind the class.
  

Objective 2 -Find Derek Witlock

Description

As part of the Merlin's Magical Hospital field trip, you've been assigned to Wiz-Doc Derek Witlock and are tasked with helping him with his tasks throughout the day. You'll be able to find him on the fourth floor of the building.

• [1/3] Welcome to Merlin's Magical Hospital, the best and most well-known magical hospital in London!
• [2/3] Now everyone should know the Wiz-Doc they've been assigned to help. (Player’s name) has been assigned to Dr Derek Witlock as an example.
• [3/3] If you don't know your assignment, come over here. If you do, go on and get going!

Derek Witlock

• [1/4] Hey there! You must be (player’s name), glad you could make it. You have impeccable timing too.
• [2/4] I'm just in the middle of doing all of my rounds on my patients. Next on my list is a Jane Doe. She came in a while ago presenting as disorientated and distraught.
• [3/4] We have no idea what exactly happened to her, but until she regains consciousness, our job is just to make sure she stays stable.
• [4/4] She's in Consultation Room 402. I'll meet you there and direct you on what to do.
  

Objective 3 -Find Patient’s Room

Description

Derek Witlock is currently doing his patient rounds. He's asked you to join him while he checks up on a Jane Doe. You'll be able to find her in Consultation Room 402 on the fourth floor.

• [1/5] Alright, there are a few things we need to do when we're assessing a patient for the first time. I'll lead you through it, though.
• [2/5] First, take a look at the report given to us by the first staff members to assist the patient. This can lead us to important clues, especially when the patient is unconscious like now.
• [3/5] Next, take their vitals and check for any substantial injuries that may need to be prioritised. Our goal is always to keep our patients as well as possible, and we have to make sure they survive for that.
• [4/5] And then for this patient, you're going to want to take another look over her personal belongings to see if we can find anything the others missed. It can be very dangerous to treat someone when we don't have their medical history.
• [5/5] Okay, now go ahead and try that. I'll be right here, so feel free to ask if you get stuck.
  

Objective 4 -Complete Daily Assessment

Description

Derek Witlock has asked you to complete his daily assessment on Jane Doe. You'll need to check her initial report, record her vitals and check for injuries to complete the task. Derek has also asked you to take another look over her belongings to see if there's any clues to her identity.

• [1/5] Upon arrival patient seemed distraught and overwhelmed. Speech was erratic.
• [2/5] Proceeded to mention a town that needed help but was too distraught to answer staff questions.
• [3/5] Staff originally tried to calm patient down, however patient collapsed before any details could be obtained.
• [4/5] Unable to locate any sort of identification on person.
• [5/5] Paged Dr. Derek Witlock for assessment.
  

Objective 5 -Return to Derek Witlock

Description

You've completed your assessment of the patient's condition. Talk to Derek Witlock to learn what he thinks of the results.

• [1/5] Well, vitals seem to have kept steady since yesterday so, no major changes. That's good at least.
• [2/5] What you reported describes that she fell unconscious due to over-exhaustion. It's a nasty thing, but fixable with some rest and a little bit of help.
• [3/5] We can give her something to help speed up the process a little bit, but other than that it's a waiting game.
• [4/5] Would you mind talking to Kyah? She's the nurse in charge of this floor. She can get you the recipe to the [1 Improved Healing Elixir] and access to the ingredients.
• [5/5] They still teach potions at Hogsworth, right? Perfect chance to practise your skills in a professional setting.
  

Objective 6 -Find Nurse Kyah

Description

With the daily assessment complete, Derek has sent you to go and brew the healing potion he needs. You'll need to collect the recipe and ingredients from Nurse Kyah before you can make it. Kyah can be found in the nurses station on the fourth floor.

• [1/4] Good morning! Judging by your badge you're one of the Hogsworth students right? What can I get for you?
• [2/4] Derek sent you, did he? Ah, he must want the [1 Improved Healing Elixir]. It was made by someone they called the Phoenix Embersage, and it's really helped save lives since the recipe was made public.
• [3/4] Here's the recipe. In terms of the ingredients, unfortunately though, they've been spread out across this floor.
• [4/4] Let's go get them. I'll be right behind you. Oh! We do also have this spoon you'll need too!
  

Objective 7 -Obtain Potion Ingredients

Description

Nurse Kyah has given you the recipe for the Improved Healing Elixir, but you'll need to find the ingredients yourself. They're spread out in a few different storage rooms across the floor.

Objective 8 -Obtain a Healing Elixir

Description

With the ingredients and recipe with you, it's now time to make the Healing Elixir. Kyah has given you access to the potion laboratory in the basement for the task. You can head down using the lifts.

Objective 9 -Return to Derek

Description

With the Improved Healing Elixir complete, you should return to Dr. Witlock so he can pass it along to Jane Doe. Remember you can find him on the fourth floor.

• [1/4] Welcome back and thanks for that! You weren't kidding, you are good at making potions...
• [2/4] Anyways, now that's out of the way, there's just one more thing I was hoping you'd do.
• [3/4] The fact we don't know Jane Doe's name has been bothering me since she arrived, but before we completely rule out all options I wanted to check our archives to see if she's been here before.
• [4/4] The archives are in the basement, not too far from the entrance. I'll stay here and make sure the potion is administered properly if you just wanna check that out.
  

Objective 10 -Check Archives

Description

As a last ditch effort to find out who your patient is, Derek has sent you to the archives to see if she's ever been a patient here before. You can find the archives in the basement of the hospital.

Objective 11 -Return to Derek Witlock

Description

You've checked out the archives but found nothing of interest on Jane Doe's identity. You should go inform Derek of this news.

• [1/4] Nothing, huh? I guessed as much. Thanks for checking for me anyways. It's appreciated.
• [2/4] Well for the time being there's nothing else we can do before she wakes up. Now we just have to monitor her.
• [3/4] Thanks for all of your help. I guess it's only fair to let you know when something changes, so I'll send you an owl once she's awake.
