Location Information
Name: Merlin's Magical Hospital

Overview

The majority of the wizarding world is serviced by one hospital: Merlin's Magical Hospital. Founded in the 1600s by healer Merlin Burnham, the hospital is currently hidden in an Unmagical department store in London, since Diagonal Lane was too small. Though it may appear miniature from the outside, the enchantments within allow the hospital to reach a height of 5 floors. At first, the solution was to take the hospital underground, but when that was deemed too unhealthy for patients, the department store solution became the superior option.

Although there are several temporary residents with a variety of injuries, there are also permanent residents at the hospital. While most of Hogsworth’s students are serviced by Madam Pumfry in the school’s infirmary, most severe wounds are sent to Merlin's Magical Hospital for more specialised care.

Despite the fact that Merlin's Magical Hospital is intended for magicals only, there are some exceptions for Unmagical injured by magical means. Other than properly healing them and Obliviuming them to ensure they won’t reveal the wizarding world, the hospital has no interaction with Unmagical. However, unlike an Unmagical hospital, there are no doctors, and instead, there are healers at Merlin's Magical Hospital. Still, much like Unmagical doctors, there are rigorous expectations for healers to meet academically, including receiving an ‘Exceeds Expectations’ or above on their H.A.T. exams in Transfiguration, Herbology, Charms, Potions, and Defence Against the Dark Arts.

One of the most notable healers from centuries past was Daisy Derwell. After succeeding in her H.A.T.’s, Daisy became a healer at the hospital from 1722-1741. What makes her an especially exceptional healer is that from 1741-1768, Miss Daisy worked as the Headmistress of Hogsworth.

Another note-worthy healer was Maria Sprout, who worked for the hospital more recently in 1995. Since she cared so deeply for her patients, she often shirked rules in attempts to make them feel better or more at home. Sadly, because she was lax in her attentiveness to gift guidelines, she allowed the deadly gift of Scoundrel’s Snare, sent by Dark Followers, into the room of Ministry worker Brodie Bronx’s room, leading to his assassination.

A few of the more notable donors are Lucretius Malfoy, who has offered generous quantities of Gold to Merlin's Magical Hospital, earning him a special box in the Quabbleball World Cup. Alongside him is Henry Porter, who dumped a generous amount of coin into the Ministry fountain anonymously, resulting in the sum being donated to the hospital.

Among the permanent residents, there are a select few significant souls. One of which is Gabriel Lockett, who was admitted for a faulty memory charm as a result of firing using a broken wand. Since memory charms were of course his speciality, the spell was powerful enough to wipe his memory clean. He is now housed in the Spell Damage section of the hospital. Fred and Allie Longcaster, other permanent residents of the hospital, are also placed in the Spell Damage section. Their injuries were a result of torture at the hands of four Dark Followers using the Tormentum spell during the First Wizarding War. Driven to insanity, the married couple were no longer able to care for themselves or be cared for at home by their family.

A handful of notable temporary residents such as Kacie Beck, a Chaser for Hogsworth’s Griffin Quabbleball team who suffered severe injuries from a cursed necklace, Margaret McGannon, the Transfiguration Professor at Hogsworth who took four stunning spells to the chest to attempt to prevent Reuben Hagrius’s eviction, Naiadora Toles who stayed for an extended period after an injury sustained in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, and Arnold Weaselby who was bitten by the snake Nilgiri while watching over the Department of Mysteries, have stayed at the hospital and luckily been released thanks to the exceptional care of the healers there.

Lastly, the floors are split by purpose. The ground level has the reception and Artefact Incidents section of the hospital. Incidents that fall under this category include broom crashes, potion backfires, and wand mishaps. Kacie Beck was treated on this floor. The first floor is for injuries sustained at the paws (or fangs) of magical creatures. Arnold Weaselby stayed on this floor. The second floor is for magical illnesses, and the third floor is where patients who are victims of poison, specifically by potions and plants, stay. The fourth floor is where spell damage patients are kept, including Gabriel Lockett, Naiadora Toles, and Fred and Allie Longcaster. The final floor, the fifth, is merely a gift shop, where visitors can relax and buy gifts for their loved ones to enjoy during their stay at the hospital.

Geography & Environment

Merlin's Magical Hospital is situated in the middle of London. As such, it is subject to the traditionally cold climates of England. However, so long as one can still reach through the drifts of snow to shake the mannequin’s hand, they can get into the hospital to get the medical attention they need. Inside contains the usual makings of a hospital, with hospital beds and equipment about.

Hidden Chests

There is one chest in the Merlin's Magical Hospital; however, it is only a Tier 1.

Since London is a city that most students have to visit very early on, the chests give out a somewhat low amount of Gold and generally low-tier gear and mob drops. Still, players can hope to receive broom components and recipes, Fire Dust, gear pieces, and mob drops.
