Overview

Dementares are Level 80, aggressive mobs on Potterworld. They are some of the most terror-inducing creatures known to the wizarding world. While there are several other daunting beasts among the magical animal kingdom, it is no competition: Dementares are the worst of them all. They have a humanoid shape, float at ten feet tall, and cover their bodies in long black cloaks. Their skin beneath is grey, withered and decayed. Their faces are nightmare-inducing, with no features  and only holes for their eyes and mouth. Regardless of their blindness, they can sense human presence and emotions.

They move around by means of free-flying and hovering, although the full range of distance they are able to go above the ground is untested due to the inherent unpredictability and danger of being near Dementares. They have cold auras that freeze water, and anyone who spends too much time around them develops a chill or, in extreme cases, pneumonia. Players can expect to run into them only after graduating during the quests The Dementare’s Kiss and Relics of the Past Part IV.

Behaviour and Defence

The Ministry of Magicians has long been allied with the Dementares, using them as a sort of guard system at The Dark Prison, where they keep their most dangerous criminals and convicts. Some oppose this decision, as the Dementares are not exactly ethical overlords, using the prisoners as food as they suck out their emotions and fear. However, others consider it the just outcome for the villains kept in the prison. Ultimately, most of the inmates are driven insane after enough time spent with the Dementares.

One of the only ways to fight them is by using the Animus Exto spell, which is notoriously difficult to learn and cast. It can be earned through the Guardian Challenge in the Headmaster's Office of Hogsworth. The user must channel all of their positive energy and memories into the spell which can be difficult. Most experienced wizards are advised to think of a happy memory in order to successfully cast the spell. Once it is successfully cast, a bright white force of energy and positive emotions bursts from the wand taking the form of an animal unique to the caster. The animal is thought to be the heart and soul of the caster, and when directed at a Dementare, they will hiss and flee as if burned. However, because of the difficulty and complication involved with casting it, most less competent wizards find it nearly impossible to fight off a Dementare alone.

If you find yourself facing a Dementare alone without the benefit of experience with the Animus Exto spell, there are a few basic facts about their skill sets you need to know. Dementares have 5560 HP to work with, so it is incredibly difficult to defeat them by using raw magic power alone. On contact, they deal 1112 damage. On top of that, they have special abilities that charge up when they are attacking their victims, dealing 1600 damage, second only to their swipe, which deals 1668 damage. If any student below graduate level should run into these soul-suckers, they ought to say their prayers and start sprinting the other direction because graduates are the only players equipped with the skills needed to defeat the Dementares.

Habitat

The exact origin of Dementares is unknown. When the original owner of The Dark Prison, a long-dead, evil man, passed, and the island was finally revealed to the Ministry of Magicians, the very first investigations revealed the presence of the Dementares. Some believe they are the remainders of the island’s dark past, victims of the previous owners’ sadism, and others believe they have always been there. In either case, there is no record of them before the discovery of The Dark Prison. There is no form of vegetation or life that appears naturally on the stormy island, and so the Dementares remain there, feeding on the prisoners of the Ministry.

Defeat

Upon defeat, Dementares have a chance of dropping Iron Footholds, Elder Handle, Leather Handlewraps, and Straw Bristles, as well as Dementare Bones, Dementare Nails, and Dementare Bogies. These ingredients can be used in professions items like the Dark Cocoacursed Delights VIII, Charming Fizz Tea VIII, Hijinx Mixture VIII, Cursed Brew VIII, Dark Cocoacursed Delights IX, Charming Fizz Tea IX, Hijinx Mixture IX, and Cursed Brew IX, and crafting brooms. Dementares also have a small chance of dropping random Lvl 71-80 Gear Pieces and Broom Recipes.
