Discoveries
Overview
Discoveries are a way to keep track of what areas the player has explored. They are unlocked after the player has visited the place for the first time and give some interesting background information on the location. Discoveries are completely optional and many will be unlocked unintentionally while doing quests or exploring. Currently, there are 177 different discoveries that a player can unlock throughout the world.
Accessing Discoveries
In order to access their discoveries, players can do /me in-game and click on the icon of the Earth that says “Discoveries”. Additionally, players can do /discovery or /discoveries to access their discoveries. Here, players are able to see and re-read all of the discoveries that they have unlocked and see how many they still need to find. There are 14 different world areas that discoveries can be unlocked from, which are: Hogsworth, Hogsend, London, Suthedge, Longbay, Squalus Bay, Griffin’s Hollow, Central Flatlands, Ireland, Deep Forest, Northern Mountains, Gnollberg Shores, Greenshore, and The Dark Prison.
There are also three different categories of discoveries: Domain, Landmarks, and Restricted. Domain discoveries are unlocked when the player first visits a large location, such as entire towns. Each world area will always have at least one Domain discovery, though some include multiple. Landmark discoveries are unlocked when players go to specific locations within a Domain. For example, the Great Hall is a Landmark discovery that is found within the overall Domain of Hogsworth. Restricted discoveries are similar to Landmarks in that they are smaller locations, but they are only hidden areas and are the hardest to find. Some Restricted discoveries may only be accessible at a certain level since particular spells are needed to obtain them.

Great Hall |
Directly off of the entrance hall is where the Great Hall is found. Meals are held here for Hogsworth Students and therefore it is a very large room with 4 tables for students to sit with their house. Floating candles fill up the room with their light as they litter the open air underneath the ceiling which is enchanted to mimic the sky above. At the front of the room sits a final table for Head Staff to be seated as well as a pedestal for the Headmaster to address the school.

Kitchens | Near the Honeybadger Common Room, there is a painting with a fruit basket where the kitchens are located. Down a set of steep stone stairs is a basement with tables identical to the Great Hall. Around the walls of the room there are fireplaces, cauldrons, stoves, shelves, and various other cooking materials which allow all of the meals to be prepped right there in the Hogsworth Kitchens. "Anything we place on this table is magically transported to the tables in the Great Hall! It is quite amazing isn't it? However- That's what I was going to say, please don't place yourself on the table!" - Winnie, House-elf |
Landmark | 1 |
Trophy Room | Accessible down the staircase hidden behind the Head Staff table in the Great Hall, the Trophy Room is a jewel of Hogsworth. Dozens of trophies from hundreds of years litter every surface of the room. Though inherently beautiful, students often dread visiting because it usually means they will be shining the trophies in detention. "Meet us in the Trophy Room because it is almost always unlocked." - Drakius Malfin |
Landmark | 1 |
Great Hall Courtyard | Just two steps outside the entrance hall, the Great Hall Courtyard is a central place for Hogsworth students. It is a place to study, hang out, meet up, and in most cases travel from wings of the castle. It is relatively barren, but has various benches around the edges and Hogsworth Guards placed at the entrance. Additionally, you will find a cart with all of the latest Daily Diviner Issues to the right of the Great Hall. "Did you hear what happened today? The new professor broke up a duel in the courtyard right after Potions." - Martin, Serpent student |

The Vanishing Cabinet | A passageway between Shade Alley and Hogsworth, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. People, creatures and items disappear upon closing the doors. This is a quicker way to get between the two areas. "This Vanishing Cabinet was broken years ago. My father, Drakius Malfin, mended it when he was a student.
