Overview

Squalus Cove was established in the 1100s on the coast, south of Wigtown. This location has had a notorious number of crime cases, which is the main reason visitors hardly stay for long periods of time. Its history of being a town owned by pirates has attracted these thieves.

In 1152, Captain Erza the Fearless formed the town to become a safe haven for persecuted pirates. Those with magic were being hunted so they found shelter within the town. Squalus Cove had a reputation for lacking laws. Many pirates were able to flee countries illegally by going to this town.

However, King Henry VII of England drove the pirates out in 1504, and the town was built from the bottom up. Past criminals and pirates returned to the town under fake names, which meant that crimes were still around, unfortunately. Fair laws were created and the town mostly lived in peace, minus the crimes that were done in secret. Until 1670, these crimes were not made apparent to the residents. As a town located by the ocean, there are a few visitors that are fishers. There are marketplaces in Squalus Cove, but those are often robbed by the many criminals living there.

Players can find Squalus Cove on the southwestern part of the map. The location can be unlocked at any level, but surrounding mobs are meant for players that are Level 40 and above. Flying on a broom would be the best way to get to Squalus Cove.

The Crafting Centre and Shady Dealer can be found on the west side of the town. On the east, players can access a Tommy Riddle, Vendor, Bank, and Fire Dust Network. The Marketplace can be found on the southern side of Squalus Cove. The Squalus Cove Reputation taskboard is found between the Duelling Halls NPC and Tommy Riddle NPC.

Geography & Environment

Found along a coast, Squalus Cove can be quite warm and humid. Players can find a mountain range to the east of the town, which can have colder temperatures. On the outskirts of town, there are many trees with a variety of spruce and oak.

Notable Locations

Squalus Cove Tunnels

The most notable location in Squalus Cove is the Squalus Cove Tunnels. They are found right under the town and have various entry points. Players can follow the water into the tunnels or go down trapdoors in the ground. These tunnels were a part of the quest, Relics of the Past - Part II. Rumours mentioned that there can be voices heard in these tunnels. Residents of Squalus Cove have learned to avoid venturing into these tunnels due to the rumours.

Demoxies and Occamers can be found in the mountainous area east of Squalus Cove. The Demoxies live in trees with small huts, but be aware as they are very hostile creatures when approached. Occamers live near trees where they nest. They are also quite aggressive upon approaching. In addition, players can find plant nodes around Squalus Cove. This includes Level 40 Wrinklefig and Asphodel. Both plants can be used to craft professions.

Hidden Chests

There are a few hidden chests throughout Squalus Cove. These chests can be hidden behind blocks and places players may not expect. Chests give off blue particles, which can help players differentiate them from normal chests. The chests can be Tier 1-3 and can give more or less Gold depending on the tier. They give mob drops between Levels 41-50. Level 41-50 gear pieces and broom recipes can also be found in these chests.

Trivia

  • A group of cloaked men meet in the sewers every Friday night.
  • There was a myth that the first pirate crews placed deceased sharks on the shore.
  • The largest shark was hung at the very centre of the town to honour the myth.
  • To the north of the town, there is a house, which travellers hid in when the town was controlled by pirates.
  • Rumours of deceased victims of pirates were haunting the sewers below the town. No one knows what actually lurks in the sewers, but many know to stay away from the area.
