Overview
Headteachers are the principals of magical schools, otherwise known as Headmasters and Headmistresses. Often in their post for decades, these witches and wizards tend to start out as teachers at their school of choice, and slowly gain leadership positions within the school. They are often extremely dependable and well-respected by students and the magical community.
Notable Headteachers
Anthony David Brotherthon (Ann. D. Brotherton)
Born in 1804, Anthony was the first child to bless the Brotherton family. At the age of ten, Anthony was pleased to find out that he would be gaining a little sister called Annalise. Annalise longed to be just like him, and he loved every second of it. Despite their decade age difference, Anthony would do anything in his power to protect his little sister.
Eventually, the two grew apart, but both went to work at Hogsworth School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Luckily, when it came to work purposes, they bonded well. They worked fantastically as a team, particularly when working with students in their care. While Anthony was leading clubs and projects, Annalise was lending a helping hand to the school’s on-site professors.
In 1840, Anthony was offered the role of Headmaster at Hogsworth, and he accepted the role immediately. Anthony was a marvellous headteacher for 40 years. He maintained a close bond with the Sr. Professors at the school, and during his retirement speech in 1880, they unanimously decided to make his sister, Annalise Brotherthon, the new Headmistress. Annalise was elated and went on to lead Hogsworth from 1880 to 1940.
Annalise Evangeline Brotheron (Anne E. Brotherton)
Ever since she came into the world, Annalise had felt a very strong bond with her older brother, Anthony. She wanted to be just like him in every way—she walked like him, talked like him, had the same friends, the same interests and more. Unlike other sibling relationships, who typically dislike their siblings “copying” them, Anthony loved every bit of it. Despite being ten years apart, Anthony and Annalise were basically best friends.
As the two grew, they both excelled in many different school curricula, taking on leadership positions in clubs and local organisations. Anthony would substitute in for other teachers while Annalise was a teacher’s assistant, helping them with grading assignments and keeping the class in order. While they grew apart, the two still shared very important interests and goals: helping others and being around students.
The Brotherton siblings both decided to pursue a job in teaching. Annalise watched as her brother went on to lead Hogsworth as Headmaster for a solid 40 years. Seeing her brother flourish in his new role only inspired Annalise to be just like him once again, making it her ultimate goal to one day lead the school she grew up attending, the same way her brother did.
As her brother announced his retirement to everyone in the Great Hall, he invited Annalise and the rest of the staff to his farewell banquet. While making the toast to commence the feast, Anthony surprised her by saying that she would be taking his place as Headmistress, congratulating her on her new position. He also noted that accommodations had already been made for her arrival in the following autumn season. Over the summer, Anthony taught Annalise everything she had to know—in order to be the best Headmistress, she had to learn how to handle dire situations in case of an emergency. She also had to understand that the students’ lives come before her own—as Headmistress, it was her duty to protect all those attending her school during term time.
Annalise Brotherton held this position from 1880 to 1940. She became known for being the longest running Headmistress Hogsworth had, retiring at the age of 126.
Heinrich Schryer
Originally from Norway, Heinrich was born in the late 18th century, at a similar time to when Hogsworth was created. The Schryer family were mainly known as a travelling family—they never stayed in one place for longer than three months at a time. While growing up, Heinrich heard word of a European school called Hogsworth, and thought it sounded like a great place to attend. With this in mind, he begged and begged his parents to let him go. Surprisingly, he succeeded in this, and he and his family moved over to Britain for easier travel. Heinrich settled in nicely at Hogsworth, and was later sorted into the House of the Wise.
While attending Hogsworth, Heinrich had the pleasure of meeting both Anthony and Annalise Brotherton as professors, whom he looked up to and admired for how hard-working they both were. Throughout his education, he was known for being a polite and extremely helpful student who would also excel in each and every subject handed to him. But, only one stole his full attention, which was Charms. Due to his success in Charms, Heinrich became a Head Prefect.
Graduating between the years 1915-1918, followed by extra years of studying, in 1925, Heinrich was offered the honour of becoming a Charms Professor at Hogsworth by Annalise. He accepted the position without question. Although being one of the youngest Charms professors, Heinrich rose to the top rather quickly, earning the title of Sr. Professor in under 12 months. Despite this fast promotion, his fellow staff members adored him, as did his students.
Furthermore, Heinrich continued to be a Sr. Charms Professor until 1940, when Annalise stepped down from her role as Headmistress—in her absence, Heinrich was elected to fill in the role as the next Headmaster, which he was not prepared for, but accepted the new challenge nevertheless. He led Hogsworth from 1940 to 1967, sadly passing away due to undisclosed reasons.
Camryn Hibbet
Allegedly born between the years 1928-1933, not much is known about Camryn. She allegedly grew up near central Liverpool, England, but this is not confirmed. In 1956, Camryn was hired by the Ministry of Magicians to attend Hogsworth as a temporary Arena Master. Camryn quite liked it at Hogsworth—feeling a sense of want and belonging, so she decided to stay permanently.
Over the course of the next 10 years, Camryn would gain the role of Lead Arena Master as well as the respect of the whole school, including that of Heinrich Schryer to whom she became very close with. Rumours sparked that the Headmaster and Arena Master were secretly a couple, though neither of them ever confirmed nor denied these allegations. 1967 was the fateful year when Heinrich passed—Carmyn could be found mourning his loss in his office for days on end, staring out of the window silently, reminiscing of the man she once knew. Following his tragic departure, a letter was found written by Heinrich himself. Within this letter, Heinrich wrote, “Where I once stood, so proud and bold, yet now so fragile and weak, a new Headmaster will stand. In my honour, with kindness, acceptance and grace, Miss Hibbet will no longer be known as Lead Arena Master. I grant Camryn Hibbet the title as the new and official Headmistress of Hogsworth.” With this news, Camryn thought it to be a dream yet it was far from one.
Over the coming spring, Camryn began preparing for her students’ return, yet this time as Headmistress. She went on to lead the corridors of Hogsworth from 1967 up until her retirement in 2017.
