Class Subjects
Overview
There are a wide variety of classes that are taught on Potterworld. Each Professor, both Jr. and Sr., can choose any subject that they would like to teach. Additionally, Academics Advisors, Academics Leads, Academics Assistant to Heads, Academics Heads, or other Head Staff can teach any subject listed below.This page will go over all the different types of note and activity classes that can be taught on the server.
Alchemy
This class focuses on the four basic elements, which are fire, earth, air, and water. Alchemy also goes over the transmutation of substances, like base metals into gold. Additional topics include famous alchemists, creations like the Philosopher's Stone, and copper transmutation. Alchemy is generally a note class that is followed by an assignment.
Ancient Runes
Ancient Runes is commonly referred to as the study of runic scripture. More specifically, this course studies scriptures that involve magic. The most common topics taught in this subject include the runes themselves, like the Futhark Runes. Typically, this class includes notes and an assignment.
Ancient Studies
This subject consists of any ancient study like civilisations or important people. The information learned can be anything from the time period between 500 and 700 CE. Players can learn about topics such as the Persian Empire, Hatshepsut, and Solon. Ancient Studies is another class that usually involves notes and an assignment.
Arithmancy
This subject focuses on the magical properties of a number. It sometimes deals with numerology and can predict the future. There may be basic addition or subtraction involved, but nothing too difficult for any age. Players can learn topics like bridge numbers, the Chaldean method, and Chinese numerology. Arithmancy usually has notes and an assignment.
Art
This class focuses on arts and crafts, paintings and artists (both magical and Unmagical). Often this class involves learning about unique magical arts and crafts such as magical pottery, star charts and more! Typically, this class includes notes and an assignment.
Astrology
Astrology is a collection of beliefs that are related to the celestial bodies. This subject is very similar to astronomy, but the main difference is how the information is used. Astrology is more belief-based and attempts to predict the future of an individual. The study of this subject also tries to gain insight into personalities. Common topics associated with astrology include zodiac signs, the sun and moon, and the different types of astrology. Similar to the previous classes listed, this subject usually has notes that are given as well as an assignment.
Astronomy
Astronomy is a branch of science that studies the movement of planets and stars. This subject is one of the only subjects that is also taught to Unmagicals. Students who attend Astronomy classes can learn topics like planets, stars, constellations, and space itself. This is another class that typically gives notes and an assignment for students to complete.
Charms
Charms is a class that goes over a variety of charm spells. In addition, it goes over the creator of the spell, its appearance, uses, and much more. One can learn topics like Leviomora, Avomora, and Meloformus. In this class, there are notes and an assignment. Some Professors may choose to allow students a chance to cast the spell they have learned about.
Creative Writing
Unlike most note classes, this class simply gives a prompt for players to complete. There are hardly ever any notes prior to the assignment being given. Prompts consist of anything open-ended that the Professor comes up with.
Dance
This class is a great way for students to learn dances on Potterworld. Dance classes consist of the Professor demonstrating a move and students repeating. After that is done, students will participate in an activity like Freeze Dance or "Who Started the Motion". Freeze Dance is a style where players dance until a Professor or Class Helper says freeze. Anyone who is still moving around would be kicked with AC. In the style Who started the Motion, the Professor assigns a player to be the leader. They will make up dance moves and others in the group would have to follow along. A Class Helper would then take three guesses to determine who the leader is. Since Dance class does not give any notes, it would be considered an activity class.
Dark Arts
Dark Arts classes can consist of learning about dark magic, artefacts, or famous dark witches and wizards. Most of the time, notes are given and an assignment would be completed. Topics that can be learned in Dark Arts include Imperium, Lord Valdemar, and soulcruxes.
D.A.D.A.
D.A.D.A., also known as Defence Against the Dark Arts, goes over how students can defend themselves from dark creatures or magic. There is a wide variety of topics that can be taught in D.A.D.A. such as the uses of shield spells, defence from creatures like Kappas, and disarming spells. Like most classes, D.A.D.A. is a note class and has an assignment.
Divination
Divination is another belief-like class. It involves the idea of learning how to gain insight into future events. There are a variety of tools and rituals used to gain information about the future. The topics that can be taught include necromancy, the suit of cups, and aeromancy. Divination is considered a note class, which means there would be notes and an assignment.
Dueling
Dueling class is a chance for players to duel one another. There are a wide variety of styles, which would be chosen by the Professor of the class. Some styles include FFA, Team vs. Team, and Hunger Games. FFA is a Free-for-All style while Team vs. Team consists of teams duelling each other that are separated by years. Hunger Games, on the other hand, is a free-for-all duel with no separation by year. Like Dance, Dueling is an activity class.
Dueling Theory
Dueling Theory is a note class that covers many aspects of duelling. This class breaks down duelling for players and helps give information like counterattacks and strategies. Common topics that can be taught include combos, aiming, and dodging.
Flying
Flying class has two styles that could be taught. The first style is a house race, where players fly with their house and the first person to finish will go into finals. All four finalists will do a race against each other to determine who gets 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The other style is Fish In a Barrel. This unique style involves players flying around on their broom to avoid being hit by spells. These spells are cast by the Class Helpers and Professor of the class. The last player left in the room wins for that round. Players are not required to have a broom, as there is one provided to use during class. Flying is another subject classified as an activity class.
Flying Theory
Like Dueling Theory, Flying Theory goes over some aspects of flying. However, this class primarily focuses on the game of Quabbleball and the brooms themselves. As it is similar to Dueling Theory, Flying Theory is also a notes class with an assignment. Topics that can be taught include bludgeons, passing the quabble, and strategies to catch the snidgets.
Ghoul Studies
Ghoul Studies is a class that usually goes over the different Ghosts, Ghouls, and Poltergeists. To go further in-depth, this class can go over the spiritual side of these creatures. Some topics that can be taught include Familiars, Poltergeists, and Nian. This class also consists of notes that are followed by an assignment.
Herbology
Herbology teaches players about the different plants in the magical world and how to care for them. Other information that can be learned includes the magical properties a plant has and how to use them. Topics that can be taught in Herbology include Scoundrel’s Snare, Sneezewort, and Mandrakes. This class also includes notes and an assignment.
History of Magic
History of Magic goes over a variety of topics. There can be the history of witches or wizards to a magical event from the past. Players can learn about the history of magical schools, the history of wands, and the fall of the Ministry. There are typically notes that are given as well as an assignment.
Literature
Literature classes go over stories found in both the magical and Unmagical world. Most of the time, excerpts from a piece are given to the students to help them get a grasp of the story being taught. Some stories taught in Literature include Jack and the Beanstalk and the Tale of Peter Rabbit. There can be notes in this class, but that is dependent on the Professor. There is usually an assignment given that follows the piece that players receive.
Magical Archaeology
Similar to archaeology in the Unmagical world, Magical Archaeology focuses on activities throughout time. It teaches how human behaviours and environments shape the wizarding world nowadays. Magical Archaeology is usually a note-taking class that has an assignment for students to complete.
Magical Architecture
Magical Architecture is mainly about the building of a town or school. It can also go over a specific room within a building. Topics that can be taught include the French Ministry, Griffin Common Room, and The Hovel. There are normally notes given to students and an assignment must be completed to receive AC.
Magical Business
As the name of the subject says, Magical Business teaches players about the different businesses in the wizarding world. Notes and an assignment are usually given with this class. Some topics that can be taught include The Broomsticks Inn, Jollivander's Wand Shop, and Wacky Wizarding Wonders.
Magical Career Exploration
Magical Career Exploration goes over the different types of jobs in the magical world. In addition, it goes over what is required to qualify for the position and what the specific job does. Topics that can be taught are Mediwizards, Caretakers, and Grounds Keepers. Most of the time, notes and assignments are given to the players in the class.
Magical Creature Studies
Magical Creature Studies covers the wide variety of creatures in the wizarding world. It goes in-depth about their lifestyle, appearance, and habitat. Players can specifically learn about creatures like the Bowleaf, Dragons, and Centaurs. This is another note-based class, but there are occasional activities that go with Magical Creature Studies.
Magical Crime Studies
Magical Crime Studies has to do with different crimes and trials of individuals. There are occasional times that players witness a small part of the trial during the class. Assignments would be based on these trials. On other occasions, the Professor can give notes.
Magical Cuisine
Magical Cuisine mainly goes over different magical foods. There can be notes about the history of the food, its appearance, and the ingredients needed to cook it. Players can learn about butterbrew, flying fizzles, and choco hops.
Magical Debate
Magical Debate can consist of two parts, notes and a debate. The notes will cover information about the topic being debated. The debate section allows players to participate in a debate about the topic that they learned about. It is a fairly interactive class for players to attend.
Magical Events
Magical Events provide information on different major events in the magical world. Professors usually give notes and an assignment to complete in this subject. Topics that can be learned about include the S.M.U.G. exams, Winter Waltz, and the Hogsworth Sorting Ceremony.
Magical Geography
Magical Geography goes over the history of towns and locations. The history can include anything from the founder of the location to the notable events that helped shape it. Some topics that can be learned include Squalus Cove, Hogsend, and Dormunstrad. Magical Geography is another note-based class that has an assignment.
Magical Inventing
Magical Inventing focuses on inventions within the wizarding world. Not only that, but this subject can also go over how the inventions helped make life easier or how they shaped future inventions. There can also be lessons about the inventors themselves. A topic that can be taught in Magical Inventing is spell creation. Notes are usually taken during this class.
Magical Objects
Magical Objects is a class that goes over different items in the wizarding world. The notes students take can include the history and use of a magical object. Other information that can be given is the users and usages of an item. Some topics that can be taught are Mischievous Map, Fire Dust, and the Temporal Turner.
Medical Magic
Medical Magic is a class that primarily focuses on magical remedies used in the wizarding world. Magical diseases can also be learned in this class. The notes given can include information like the creator of a remedy, ingredients needed, the appearance, and notable uses of the remedy. Topics that can be taught are bezoar, the Dragon Plague, and the Dark Feline Flu.
Music
Music allows players to learn about instruments in the magical and Unmagical worlds. Not only that, but players can also learn about different choirs and songs. A topic that can be taught is the frog choir at Hogsworth. Notes and assignments are usually given in Music classes.
Mythology
Mythology is a collection of myths about people, culture, and much more. Within each myth, there is an aspect of the human condition such as good and evil. There are different types of Mythology that can be taught like Greek, Egyptian, and Norse. All have unique topics such as Talos, Isis, and Valkyries. Since Mythology is a notes-based class, there would be notes and an assignment given.
Philosophy
Philosophy goes over many philosophical or theoretical ideas. The subject itself helps players understand fundamental truths about themselves. Topics that can be taught include existence, essence, and egoism. Philosophy usually consists of notes and an assignment like most other note-based classes.
Poetry
Poetry classes typically study different types of poems and ways to write them. The notes can either be given in a textbook or players would have to write them down. Notes in the form of textbooks are usually examples of a poem for players to read. The assignment can consist of writing a poem that is unique and follows a specific prompt.
Potions
This class is a time for players to brew a potion. The Professor of the class has their own choice when it comes to the potion being brewed. There is a wide variety of potions like Bouncing Brew and the Elixir of Ice. As this is a quicker activity class, it only rewards 5 AC.
Potion Theory
Potion Theory is a class that focuses on the different potions in the wizarding world. More specifically, it goes over the steps on how to brew them as well as the ingredients needed. Some topics that can be taught include the Shrewdness-Sharpening potion and Felix Fortuna. Unlike Potions, Potion Theory is a note class that requires students to complete an assignment to receive AC.
Theatre
Theatre is an activity class most of the time. There are occasional notes given, but it is often very interactive for players. The activity performed in Theatre depends on the Professor of the class. Players can be put into groups to perform based on the theme or style. The amount of AC received is dependent on how well the group of players perform.
Transfiguration
Transfiguration primarily goes over different transfiguration spells and how they are used. It is a complex type of magic that focuses on changing the form or appearance of an object. Some topics that can be taught are spells like glass to gravel or the switching spell. Transfiguration is also a note class with an assignment.
Trivia
Trivia does not have any notes that go along with the class and players are instead often placed into teams. Most of the time, the teams are typically sorted out by the house because the top 3 places receive House points. The questions can be about anything on Potterworld as well as miscellaneous information.
Unmagical Studies
Unmagical Studies is the study of anything about Unmagicals. Topics can range from the various uses of electricity, to different Unmagical sports. Players can learn about rubber ducks, the Olympics, and even baseball. Unmagical Studies is another note-based class that consists of notes and an assignment.
Wandlore
Wandlore is a class that goes over everything about wands, from the history of specific wands, to laws about them. Some topics that Wandlore has includes wand cores, wandless magic, and the strict laws on using wands. Like many other classes, Wandlore has notes and an assignment.
Wizarding Economics
As the name implies, Wizarding Economics is about the economy of the magical world. Different types of currency can be learned about in this class. Banks, like Grimlotts, can also be learned in Wizarding Economics. This class also consists of taking notes and completing an assignment.
Wizarding Fashion
Wizarding Fashion usually consists of learning about different uniforms for different schools and materials used. When learning about uniforms, there would be information on the design, colours, and the designer of them. Some topics that can be taught are Silvermorne Wizarding Academy’s uniforms and the Winter Waltz outfits. Notes and an assignment are usually given in these classes.
Wizarding Law
Wizarding Law goes over the different laws in the British wizarding world. Lessons can consist of what the law is used for and the consequences of them being broken. The class also goes over the specific department in the Ministry that deals with the situations. Most of the time, Wizarding Law gives players notes to take and an assignment to finish.
Wizard’s P.E.
Wizard’s P.E. is a parkour-based class. Players would attempt to complete a course that has different stages in 45 minutes. There is a minimum of 10 AC given in this class for participation. Courses that can be used are Whale, Colours, Hogsworth, Wipeout, and Story. Wizard’s P.E. is another class that is considered an activity class.
