Overview

Hippogriffs are Level 67, neutral mobs on Potterworld. They are currently located in the Deep Forest to the northwest of Haggleton. These creatures are quite powerful and require good gear and strong spells in order to defeat. While their exclusive mob drops are required in the quests Dangers of the Night and Plant Protection Program, you may also encounter them during the A Feathered Friend quest.

A Hippogriff is a creature that has the front of an eagle and the back of a horse. While they are often compared or mixed up with the mythical Griffin, the biggest difference between the two is that the Hippogriff has the back of a horse and the Griffin has the back of a lion. When a person first encounters this creature they are typically in shock due to the Hippogriff’s majestic presence. However, after this period has passed, an individual is able to observe their feathers and hair more closely. These majestic creatures can have many different colours of hair; these colours include stormy grey, bronze, pinkish roan, gleaming chestnut, and inky black. Additionally, Hippogriffs have giant orange eyes and a steel-coloured beak.

Breeding Hippogriffs has become a popular career in the wizarding community. These creatures typically only lay one egg at a time, but the egg hatches within 24 hours. While a baby Hippogriff will begin to fly after about a week of being born, it takes a bit more time until they are actually able to embark on a lengthier journey. However, it is important to be careful when approaching these creatures, as they can be quite dangerous due to their long nails.

Behaviour & Defence

While travelling through the Hippogriff’s nest area, Hippogriffs will begin to spawn. However, they will only start to attack if a player attacks them first. While these creatures do not move extremely fast, they have abilities that allow them to quickly teleport a short distance and deal damage to a player farther away.

Hippogriffs have a total of 3395 HP each. Their basic attack deals 679 damage and they have three special abilities known as swipe, AOE, and dash. After being hit with a spell, a Hippogriff may choose to use one of these three abilities against the player. Their swipe attack is a special ability that swipes at a player and deals 1018 damage. A Hippogriff may then use their AOE attack which is an Area of Effect ability that also deals 1018 damage. Finally, this creature might charge up their dash ability in order to teleport towards a player and attack them, dealing 1018 damage.

Multiple Hippogriffs can all spawn at once, and when antagonised, can deal quite a bit of damage. Continuously strafing and keeping a distance helps to avoid both their basic and special attacks. It is also important to have good gear and strong spells on hand in order to survive and defeat these creatures.

Much like regular eagles, Hippogriffs typically eat insects, birds, and smaller animals such as ferrets. If they are unable to find any of these then they will instead look for worms to eat. Hippogriffs are often very violent creatures until they have been tamed. However, only a trained individual should even attempt to do so, as these creatures are very proud and particular when it comes to how they are tamed. In order to tame a Hippogriff, one must first show respect by bowing to them and waiting until they bow back. During the whole process, eye contact can not be broken, and the Hippogriff must be the first one to move. If these steps are not followed correctly it could lead to this creature attacking the individual. Even though this is a long and delicate process, Hippogriffs become incredibly loyal and protective of the person who was able to befriend and tame them.

Habitat

Hippogriffs typically place their nests on the ground. On Potterworld, these creatures can be found living in the Deep Forest near the mountains and to the northwest of Haggleton. Additionally, Puffing Pod Lvl. 60 plant nodes can be found scattered around their nests as well as the surrounding forest area.

Defeat

As a Level 67 mob, Hippogriffs have the chance of dropping Level 61-70 broom materials as well as exclusive mob drops. These drops include Gold Footholds, Rowan Handle, Cotton Handlewraps, and Twig Bristles as well as Hippogriff Feather, Hippogriff Dung, and Hippogriff Heart. Additionally, like most other types of mobs, they also have a rare chance of dropping Lvl 61-70 Gear Pieces and Broom Recipes. Materials such as Footholds, Handle, Handlewraps, and Bristles can play a part in crafting such recipes into brooms. While their exclusive mob drops are required in the quests Dangers of the Night and Plant Protection Program, they can also be used in the crafting of profession items such as the Puffing Pod Fudge VII, Jester's Stew VII, Jester's Tea VII, and Transformation Tonic VII.
