Overview

The Revenant Gauntlet was officially released on January 24th, 2022 and focused on introducing new gameplay for graduate players. In order to play the Gauntlet, players must be at least Level 71, though being Level 80 is recommended. Players also have to speak to the Kyla Leveski NPC in an alley in Diagonal Lane near the Vertick Alley Public Gardens to unlock the Revenant Gauntlet for the first time.

This Gauntlet had previously been released almost four years previously on April 15th, 2018 and was in place until July of 2020. The basis of the Gauntlet was similar, as there were three mini-bosses and Zirxas as the final boss, but it was reworked before its second release. In the original 2018 version, there were chests that had health potions that players could use and players could only complete it every twenty-four hours.

Storyline

Zirxas Escurum was an old, but skilled Necromancer known for making trouble and actually had never attended a magical school. As a child, his powerful and dangerous grandfather revealed to him that his necklace could bring back the dead. Due to his parents believing Zirxas’ grandfather was trying to influence him, his family moved to the Mediterranean to avoid him and Zirxas had to learn everything on his own. The majority of the knowledge that he gained as a child and teenager came from old books and from his own parents. He was so curious about why his family had to be isolated that he began digging into old family records to find the truth. He was able to discover that he would be the recipient of his grandfather’s power and personal items, including the mysterious necklace. Despite his power, his grandfather's goals were left uncompleted. Zirxas eventually made his way back to Britain and began terrorizing the magical world. At the time, no one knew who or what was causing so much harm throughout the country.

As a Cursebreaker for the Ministry of Magicians, Kyla Leveski had a lot of experience investigating different types of curses and mysteries. Despite her rank, she was not allowed to investigate this unknown, dark entity, so she did it on her own time. Her curiosity pushed her farther and farther into her research, eventually causing her to steal a fang associated with Zirxas from the restricted section of the Ministry. When the Ministry found out about her theft, she went into hiding in the well at The Hovel.

While Kyla was lying low at The Hovel, Zirxas attacked Diagonal Lane. He managed to raise the dead and steal the necklace that his grandfather once had. This put pressure on the Ministry to begin investigating Zirxas, however, it did not clear Kyla’s name.

The students of Hogsworth were heavily invested in Zirxas and Kyla, specifically, Issac Wayland, Kyla’s soon-to-be stepson. While still working for the Ministry, Kyla had been assigned to spy on Issac’s family, specifically Issac’s mother, Gina. Gina had become a Dark Follower shortly after Issac’s birth, hence why Connor divorced her. Eventually, she started to have feelings for Connor and they became a couple. Kyla then found out that Gina had a daughter that both Issac and Connor were unaware of. When she went into hiding, Kyla had been with Connor for years and Issac saw her as a maternal figure, but the Ministry refused to give them any information about her. At this point, Kyla was still deep into her research and knew she could not be reunited with her family until she got to the bottom of things.

The Head of the Department of Law Enforcement, Mason Glaviar, then begins to search for Kyla to gather more information. He had been conflicted on whether to be loyal to the Dark Followers or the Auralocks, though he did start to question the philosophy of the Dark Followers. He technically resigned from the Dark Followers, but still maintained contact with them and was feeding them information. Mason managed to get a prophecy about Kyla from the Department of Mysteries and was then able to corner her on top of a mountain. He then assigned an Auralock to her to bring her findings back to the Ministry. Luckily, Kyla was friends with the Auralock and he faked an attack that allowed her to escape.

While still in hiding, Kyla floated around Diagonal Lane until the Phoenixes offered to let her stay at their base. She continued to delve further into her research and finds out that the fang can destroy Zirxas’ necklace, as they were both obtained from the same serpent.

Kyla then tracked Zirxas down, finding him in the sewers near Diagonal Lane. The Gauntlet starts with Kyla at the beginning of the sewers and on her way to kill Zirxas. The three non-Zirxas bosses that the players have to fight were all recruited by Zirxas.

The Enchantress was an old friend of Zirxas’ that he made while in exile in the United States and they compared their magic with one another. She has a particular fondness for different experiments, especially ones that allow her to use dark magic. The Butcher was close to death when Zirxas saved him. Due to this, he is bound to help Zirxas in all of his malevolent endeavours. Zirxas found the Wraith during his travels and believes it is an older and more powerful relative of the Dementare. No matter what it is, he was able to control it and now it fights on his side.

At the end of the Gauntlet, if the player is able to complete it, it is revealed that Mason wants to use the Serpent Amulet for his own benefit. Kyla refuses to let that happen, and stabs the necklace with the fang, destroying the necklace, Mason, and Kyla herself.

Gameplay

Once players unlock the Gauntlet by speaking to Kyla Leveski, they can do /gauntlet or /gauntlets to queue for the Gauntlet at any time. At a minimum, there need to be three players queued for the Gauntlet to start, but up to five can play at a time. The amount of players impacts the difficulty of the Gauntlet, with fewer people being more difficult and more people being slightly easier. There are also aspects of the Gauntlet that are impacted and scaled to the number of players, specifically boss skills.

When inside the Gauntlet, players will need to talk to the Kyla NPC to remove the initial wall so they can start running through the Gauntlet. Players then have to figure out where the lever to open each of the bosses’ doors are and must go in a certain order. Oftentimes, players may split up in order to reach the levers quicker or to cover more ground, but that can also lead to players dying. In addition to the bosses, there are also smaller mobs that are found throughout the entire Gauntlet that will impede players as they attempt to make it to the next boss. There are a variety of mobs that can be encountered including, Undead, Cursed Blocks, Undead Miners, Arachtella, Undead Auralocks, Undead Dark Followers, Undead Skeletons, and Wizard Sentries. While it can be tempting to ignore these mobs, they can easily overwhelm players, especially if they wander off on their own. However, once an area is cleared of the mobs, no more will respawn, making it safer to retrace one’s steps.

If someone does happen to die, either to the smaller mobs or the bosses, they can be revived by their teammates. At the beginning of the Gauntlet, every player receives a Medpack that is capable of bringing a dead player back to life. Anytime someone dies, they will leave behind a ghost with their IGN and using the Medpack on this ghost will revive them. The Medpack has a large range of 40 metres and a cast time of only two seconds, but if the player gets hit by a mob while casting, the revive will get cancelled. There is also a 90-second cooldown after reviving a player, so 90 seconds must pass before the player can revive another.

Bosses

There are five bosses in total: the Enchantress, the Butcher, the Wraith, Zirxas, and Giant Zirxas. Each has its own unique abilities and different levels of health, so it is important to learn the moves of each boss in order to be successful. Every time a boss is killed, players will receive a Lootbag from that boss along with Soul Essence and experience. The amount of Soul Essence, experience, and potential Gold gained from defeating each boss is as follows:

Boss Soul Essence Experience Gold Pouch
Enchantress 1 A large amount of experience 10 - 200 Gold
Butcher 2 An extra-large amount of experience 75 - 300 Gold
Wraith 3 An extra-large amount of experience 125 - 400 Gold
Zirxas (Normal) 2 An extra-large amount of experience 250 - 500 Gold
Giant Zirxas 2 An extra-large amount of experience 250 - 500 Gold

Even if players don’t complete the Gauntlet, they will still get the rewards from each boss that they managed to kill.
