Overview

Thestries are Level 19, neutral mobs on Potterworld. They are currently located in a forest on the outskirts of Hogsend. Their exclusive mob drops are required in the quests The Arachnid Lair, Build-A-Plush Toyshop,  Promoting S.P.E.W., and The Werewolf Curse.

Thestries appear as skeletal horses with leathery wings that allow them to quickly fly extremely long distances. They also have glossy white eyes and a slippery black skin that stretches all across their bones. In addition to these features, they have long, sharp fangs and pointed beaks as well. While Thestries have a very unique appearance, only those who have witnessed death are actually able to see them. Unfortunately, due to this affinity with death, they are often believed by witches and wizards to be bad omens that bring about misfortune.

Many of a Thestries features such as their mane, hearts, and dung are used in a variety of different ways. While all three of these can be used in many different potions and magical foods, their hair is typically used as a core for wands. However, only an individual who is unafraid of death is able to yield this type of wand. Because of this, the Elder Wand is thought to have the core of Thestry hair.

Behaviour & Defence

Upon entering the forest, Thestries will begin to spawn. However, they will only start to attack if a player attacks them first. While these creatures are not extremely fast, they have abilities that enhance their speed as well as allow them to quickly teleport a short distance and attack.

Thestries have a total of 240 HP each. Their basic attack deals 48 damage and they have two special abilities known as dash and sprint. After being hit with a spell, a Thestry may choose to use one of these two abilities against the player. Their dash ability allows them to quickly teleport towards a player and attack dealing 103 damage. A Thestry might also choose to use their sprint ability to enhance their speed and sprint towards a player in order to attack them.

Multiple Thestries can spawn at a time, and when antagonised, can deal quite a bit of damage together. Continuously strafing and keeping a distance helps to avoid both their basic and special attacks. It is also important to have some gear and spells on hand in order to survive and defeat these creatures.

Thestries are extremely social creatures and therefore typically live in herds. In order to communicate with each other they will use ghastly shrieks. They are carnivorous creatures and their diet usually consists of many different types of birds. However, they avoid attacking and preying on owls. Thestries also will not attack humans or other magical creatures unless they are provoked. These creatures are a very intelligent species and have excellent navigational skills. They are also able to be tamed and domesticated. While Thestries will allow humans to mount them after being trained, flying on one of these creatures is illegal.

Habitat

Thestries can be found living in a forest right off the outskirts of Hogsend. Additionally, Dittany Lvl. 10 nodes can be found scattered around the forest.

Defeat

As a Level 19 mob, Thestries have the chance of dropping exclusive mob drops. These drops include Thestry Mane, Thestry Dung, and Thestry Heart. Additionally, like most other types of mobs, they also have a rare chance of dropping Lvl 11-20 Gear Pieces. While their exclusive mob drops are required in multiple quests, they can also be used in the crafting of profession items such as the Puffing Pod Fudge II, Jester's Stew II, Jester's Tea II, and Transformation Tonic II.
