Overview

Founded in 2015, Doc’s Door-to-Door Medicinal Clinic is a mobile emergency clinic owned by Doug Diddle. The purpose of this mobile clinic is to provide emergency care to rural magical communities in mid-America.

Background

Born in 1979, Doug Diddle was the sixth of nine children to Delilah and Dave Diddle. His family, which was entirely made up of witches and wizards, lived on a rural farm in Kansas, United States. The family would often use their magical abilities to enlarge the size of their crops and thus the yield of each harvest. However, due to their magical manipulation, they kept themselves isolated from both magical and Unmagical towns. Unfortunately, this meant that certain services were difficult to come by—namely medical providers.

In 2000, the youngest Diddle child came down with the Unmagical ailment known as Scarlet Fever. The child, who was barely eight years old, had contracted the illness suddenly. No one on the farm knew how to cure the child, and the nearest medical centre was nearly three hours away. Delilah Diddle tried various potions, spells, salves, and anything else she could get her hands on, but the child still passed away from the virus four months later.

Deeply affected by the loss of his youngest sibling, Doug knew that the family could not survive being this separated from society. He desperately tried to convince his parents to allow them all to move to a farm closer to a rural village, but they were adamant about remaining where they were. However, Doug came up with a different solution – one that would help his family, and others, who were in the same living situation.

In 2010, Doug saved up enough money to buy a van from an Unmagical man who lived two hours away. Doug spent the following five years altering the vehicle into a clinic on wheels. In the fifteen years between his youngest sibling passing away and the clinic being ready, Doug dedicated hours each day to reading up on medical practices and knowledge. His plan to become a mobile doctor was finally made a reality when he drove his vehicle down the dirt path and away from his childhood home.

Doc’s Door-to-Door Medical Clinic

The first few years of operation were rough for Doug as not many people utilised his services due to a lack of promotion. Many wizards just assumed he was a strange man with a van offering medical services, which set off a lot of alarm bells for his target demographic. However, after successfully treating a young man for blood poisoning in 2017, many magical residents of Kansas’ farming country called on him to help with their ailments. Eventually, word of Doug’s medical knowledge spread further out into the country by word of mouth. Being only one man, he created a system that would allow him to spend an adequate amount of time in each state in the United States, primarily focusing on the wheat and irrigated belt. Doug decided that he would spend one to two months in a state, taking non-emergency calls from the residents, before moving on to the next state. In the instance that an emergency call to Doug would be made, he would move on to that state early.

Since his start in 2015, Doug has served thousands of families and grown his expertise to treat viruses, bacteria, minor fractures and breaks, and can diagnose a large majority of Unmagical and magical illnesses found in the United States, despite never having received any formal education.
