Overview

Similar to the Unmagical version, chariot racing, Thestry racing is a magical sport that was first introduced in the 1700s. Instead of horses, it uses Thestries to guide the carriage along the track. This sport is mainly played by those who have seen death due to the nature of the creature.

History

Founded by Eren Rickgnolls, Thestry racing was introduced as a way to bring the wizarding community together in the hope of educating the wider public on Thestries. However, Eren did not take time to consider that not everyone could see Thestries. Teams were founded shortly after its introduction, and the first competition took place in 1701 in the small town of Appleby.

On that day, people brought their whole families. Children were fascinated by carriages that could move on their own while others watched the teams preparing. Each team included a driver and an attacker. As they boarded the carriage, they readied their spears to attack other teams as wands were not allowed. However, one rule within the racing is that they were not allowed to harm the Thestries as they were considered to be rare and sacred creatures.

Once the race started, everyone immediately jumped into action. The crowd went wild, and parents were covering their children’s eyes. Halfway through the race, one of the contestants fell out of their carriage. Despite his injuries, the race continued.

The race was filled with screams, shouts, and chaos until finally Deathwing crossed the finish line, crowning Alayna and Melissa Gigglesport as winners. Due to its big success, Thestry racing would take place every year, with a large tournament happening every three years.

Teams & Tournaments

Each team is made up of two people: one to drive the carriage and one to attack other teams. When signing up, teams must enter a team name for the race. While the name can be anything, many people will choose Thestry puns or locations. Some examples of team names that have been selected are Deathwing, the Jaunty Hoofers, and Appleby’s Bountiful Brothers.

Every three years, a large Thestry racing tournament takes place. In this instance, each team is instead made up of four people, and carriages are handcrafted by the team themselves. During the tournament, many carriages fall apart due to bad craftsmanship, which makes it more enjoyable for the crowd.

At the end of a total of ten races, a winner is crowned, and they are given a gold trophy in the shape of a Thestry. This is kept until the next tournament takes place, which they are automatically entered into due to being the previous winners. However, if they are physically unable to attend, the runner-ups are contacted. Should no one be available, the idea is scrapped and completely new teams are brought in.

Impact on Gameplay

Thestries can be found living in the woods northeast of Hogsend. However, they don’t take kindly to attempts to injure them or use them for sport.
