Overview
The Shoelace Thief was a world-renowned criminal who would steal the shoelaces and sandal straps of unsuspecting wizards. While many wondered why shoelaces were the target, the Shoelace Thief understood the significance of them. A wizard’s downfall truly started with their shoelaces.
History
Shoelaces started to disappear in the summer of 2022. For many years, the magical world had lived in relative peace with very few terrible occurrences. One wizard, who named himself the Shoelace Thief, decided that something needed to change.
It started with the simple untying of shoelaces. Many wizards would find their walk disrupted as their shoes betrayed them and their laces began to slowly unravel. Fortunately for them, a simple spell could tie them straight back up. No one thought anything of it, even wizards who had just tied their laces, as shoelaces would often come loose. On the rare occasion, a wizard could be found tripping over their own untied shoelaces due to their lack of realisation of their predicament.
However, as time went on, so did the severity of the situation. Instead of the shoelaces just being untied, they would completely come out of the shoe. For the most part, the Shoelace Thief would just leave them lying on the ground or enchant them to slowly slither away from the wizard. However, sometimes he would make the shoelace completely disappear within just seconds of it being removed from the shoe.
Not long after the Shoelace Thief stepped up his game - he also began trying to steal sandal straps to mix it up. Slowly, wizards began to notice the strange occurrence of their shoelaces disappearing. To try and stop them from being stolen, wizards would charm their shoes with a variety of charms, including sticking charms. None of these seemed to work, and many found their shoelaces disappearing.
Outrage shortly spread around the wizard community as many found their shoes to be useless once the laces and sandal straps had been stolen. It was slowly teaching the wizarding community to not disregard any item as anything could be important, such as shoelaces.
Unfortunately, there was no discovery of who the Shoelace Thief was. Slowly, the stealing of shoelaces and sandal straps became less common as wizards were slowly remembering to watch their laces. However, every couple of months, someone else will try to copy the works of the Shoelace Thief, but not many are successful.
