Overview

Kelpies are Level 49, aggressive mobs that currently resides near a beach, southwest of the town of Wigtown. There is currently only one quest that requires the player to defeat a Kelpie, the Year 6 quest The Bells of Wigtown. Their mob exclusive drops can also be used to craft profession recipes.

Kelpies usually appear as black horses with reversed hooves and water plants for manes. However, their appearance can vary, as they are known to shapeshift. They are sometimes known to assume human form when lonely, but they are deceptive and should not be trusted.

One of the most famous Kelpies is located in a lake in Scotland called Loch Ness. This Kelpie prefers the form of a giant sea serpent and loves to attract the attention of Unmagical locals and tourists.

Though fairly rare, Kelpie hair can be used as the core in wands. Additionally, Kelpie hooves, gills, and teeth are commonly used in potions and magical foods.

Behaviour and Defence

Kelpies enjoy luring their prey to them with beautiful, hypnotic songs. Once their prey touches the Kelpie, they will quickly become stuck and will be unable to escape without cutting off the body part attached to the Kelpie. When the victim is on the Kelpie’s back, the creature will make a sharp dive to the bottom of the water. Here, the Kelpie will consume their prey and leave only entrails behind.

With a total of 1575 HP, Kelpies can be difficult to kill without gear that allows spells to do additional damage. Their melee attack deals 315 damage and they have two additional abilities: a dash attack and an AOE (area of effect) attack that will both deal 472 damage. For the dash attack, the Kelpie will move quickly in a straight line towards the player. When trying to avoid the Kelpies’ dash, the player should look out for blue water particles coming from the creature, as this is when it is preparing the attack. When gearing up for its AOE attack, there will be blue water particles above the Kelpie in vertical lines along with a circle of blue water particles marking the area where damage will be dealt. This attack will create an area of damage that is best avoided. If the player does get caught in the AOE’s radius, 472 damage is dealt.

Habitat

Kelpies are native to the waters in and around the United Kingdom and Europe. On Potterworld, there is a particularly large colony on a beach on the coast near Wigtown. The beach where they live has a rocky shore and there are trees surrounding the sandy area. If the player follows the river that starts on the beach eastward, eventually they will come upon the mouth of the river, near Riddleyard. Gurgle Weed Lvl. 40 nodes can be found scattered around the area, especially on rocks or at the base of nearby trees.

Defeat

Upon their defeat, Kelpies have a chance of dropping Level 41-50 broom materials, which include Brass Footholds, Walnut Handle, Fur Handlewraps, and Stick Bristles. They have the rare chance to drop Lvl 41-50 Gear Pieces, along with Broom Recipes. Additionally, they can drop Kelpie exclusive drops such as Kelpie Tooth, Kelpie Hoof, and Kelpie Gills. These Kelpie exclusive drops can be used to create the following profession items: Charming Fizz Cakes V, Charming Fizz Tea V, Charming Concoction V, and Restoration Draught V.
