Overview
Magical Nurses, or MNs, are the caretakers of the sick and wounded. They work tirelessly to bring ill wizards and witches back to health. There are many types of nurses, but the main types of MNs are Child Care Specialists, General Care Practitioners, and Emergency Care Practitioners.
Requirements
Each type of nursing carries different responsibilities, so the requirements to become each type of MN vary.
First, there are Child Care Specialists (Magical Nurse: Child Care Specialist/MN: CCS), who are most revered for their efforts. To become one, an individual must be tested in a variety of ways. They must be tolerant of children, no matter what kind of ruckus they cause, tricks they pull, noises they make, or messes they create. They must also be extremely imaginative and creative, and be able to entertain children, whether they are bored, need a distraction while getting treatment, or need a new and creative way to make treatment easier. And, like all MNs, they must know potions and magical remedies like the back of their hand. Since children are rather anxious when it comes to appointments, medicine, and procedures, MN: CCSs must make it their duty to make them feel more at ease. Typically, Child Care Specialists will work in a healer’s office; however, many are also stationed in hospitals.
Next, there are General Care Practitioners (Magical Nurse: General Care Practitioner/MN: GCP), who cover the majority of nursing jobs. MN: GCPs can work in most healthcare settings and occasionally will make home visits if a magical is unable to make it to the healer’s office. As an MN: GCP, one must have a wide array of knowledge of illnesses, cures, and tests. They must know what tests to order, how to work with a healer to decide and implement a treatment plan, and be able to explain illnesses and answer questions calmly and clearly.
Finally, there are Emergency Care Practitioners (Magical Nurse: Emergency Care Practitioner/MN: ECP), who work in hospitals. As with all magical nurses, an MN: ECP must have a strong base knowledge of illnesses and remedies. On top of this base knowledge, an Emergency Care Practitioner is required to know how to identify and treat rarer ailments. They also must be level-headed, work well under pressure, and be prepared to deal with potentially dangerous cases such as a highly infectious disease or a patient with magically induced aggression. The shifts are long for an MN: ECP but highly rewarding.
While Magical Nurses have different requirements inside the workplace, their schooling is not all that different. Every MN must gain a higher education at a four-year school. Here, they will learn about potions, magical and non-magical illnesses, and magical remedies. They will also learn basic skills such as how to order and complete diagnostic tests, how to take blood samples, and how to take measurements such as weight or blood pressure. Most specialists require an additional one to two years of schooling with classes focused on the specific field they will be going into.
