Winter Waltz at Mahounoshiro 2020
Contents
Overview
The annual Winter Waltz in 2020 was an event hosted at Mahounoshiro School of Magic in Japan. The event featured quests that were accessible throughout the entire event and were all completed at Mahounoshiro. Exclusive rewards were available for purchase and included new items as well as past items. The event commenced on the 15th of December 2020 and ended on the 11th of January 2021.
Storyline
Hogsworth students were invited by Headmistress Yamamoto to celebrate the holiday season at Mahounoshiro School of Magic. Students spoke to Headmistress Yamamoto outside the Great Hall where they would ride a Giant Storm Petrel to the event. Players would meet the students and professors of Mahounoshiro as they completed quests and activities around the school.
Location
The event was accessed by talking to the Headmistress Yamamoto NPC outside of the Great Hall. Players would then get teleported to the event. The event took place at the Japanese-inspired build of Mahounoshiro School of Magic, featuring the Japanese castle and its surroundings.
Quests
There were seven main quests that could be completed by players at Mahounoshiro. Upon completing each quest, players were rewarded with ‘Snowflakes’. Snowflakes were an event-only currency and could be earned through completing quests and activities. They could be used to purchase rewards.
You’re a Mean One
Players spoke to Headmistress Yamamoto who requested their help after finding out someone had robbed the school of important Christmas items and presents. The player had to figure out who the robber was and find the missing items. To do this, the player used a spellbook that cast the spell ‘Appear Vestigium’, which showed the events that took place at the scene of the crime. To obtain the spellbook, the player had to visit the library and find the book. The book was a monster book and would teleport the player away if they got too close. In order to use the book, the player needed to speak to the Professor in the library and find out that the book was upset because one of it had a torn-out page. The player had to find the page in the same room and then approach the book while shifting to not aggravate it. The player then clicked on the book with the page and obtained the spellbook.
After this, the player took the spellbook to the scene of the crime and clicked on it. The player was teleported to a duplicate build where there were Predictises with the Christmas presents. The player then clicked on a Predictise and was teleported back to Headmistress Yamamoto. The Headmistress told the player to find the Predictises and return the stolen items. Then they received a strand of Predictise hair that would lead to the Predictises lair. The player was then teleported to a separate build where they would use the hair, which became ‘hotter’ or ‘colder’ depending on where the player went, to find the entrance of the Predictises lair. The player entered the lair, which was a maze, and had to find and collect all 20 presents hidden within. After they collected the presents, they would return to the Headmistress and complete the quest.
Potions Championship Preparations
The player talked to the Potions Professor who invited them to participate in the Wizarding School Potions championship. The player went to the Mahounoshiro library in order to find the Potions Textbook and returned to the professor. The Potions Professor told the player to memorise the Potion of Persistence that was found in the Potions Textbook as a textbook entry. The player was then tested on the potion and had to get all the questions correct. After this, they had to brew the Potion of Persistence. To do this, the player had to gather the following materials: 4 Asphodel, 1 Mermaid Fin, 3 Wrinklefig, and 2 Ghoul Bone. The materials were found in the Potion Professor’s storeroom. Once the materials had been obtained, the player brewed the potion and returned to the Potions Professor.
Poetry Exchange Program
Players received the quest from a poster NPC that told them to join the poetry club meeting in the Alchemy classroom. The players then talked to Monica, the poetry club president, who instructed them to gather the materials, which were required to join the meeting. The materials the player had to obtain were: 1 Journal from the Mahounoshiro library and a Bottle of Ink obtained from the professor on the second floor of the library. To obtain the Bottle of Ink, the player was quizzed by the professor on which poem was a Haiku. The player then had to return to the Alchemy classroom and craft a Pile of Poetry Supplies. Players wrote a poem by selecting words. Once the player had completed their poem, they had to share the poem with the other NPCs in the classroom and receive feedback. The player then returned to Monica.
O Christmas Tree
The player spoke to Headmistress Yamamoto who asked them to find the Angel Topper from Mahounoshiro’s Christmas Tree. Players then had to follow a trail of broken ornaments from the Christmas Tree to catch the culprit. They had to capture the Occamer culprit by obtaining a Flower Pot and clicking on a mouse model to get ‘bait’. They then returned to the Headmistress. The Headmistress instructed the player to visit the Magizoology Professor at the flying horse stables and to ask about the captured Occamer. Players then received a Japanese Creature Guide from the Magizoology Professor who told them to look for clues near the Christmas Tree. The player would find a claw, tooth, and puddle. After the player returned to the Magizoology Professor, they had to correctly identify which Japanese magical creature had been aiding the Predictises. Upon guessing that it had been the Kappas, the player was required to find the Kappa near the school pond. To obtain the Angel Topper, players had to complete an ice skating challenge and then bow to the Kappa by shifting. The Angel Topper was restored by clicking the top of Mahounoshiro’s Christmas Tree.
Jingle Bells
Players spoke to Headmistress Yamamoto who was worried that the Predictises would return to ruin their Christmas celebrations. The Headmistress instructed the player to capture a Predictise. To do this, the player had to set three traps in the main courtyard and then return to the Headmistress. Players had to check the traps and successfully capture a Grinch Predictise. The player then had to return to the Headmistress. It was revealed that the Predictises were scared of the school’s annual firework show and had been stealing things in order to put a stop to the show. Players had to help the Predictise calm down during the firework show. They did this by taking the Predictise to the music room and completing a bell puzzle in the correct order to play a song. Once the Predictise had been calmed, the player had to set off the firework show and then return to the Headmistress.
Deck the Halls
The player received the quest from Headmistress Yamamoto who requested the player’s help in creating a new wreath for the school. To do this, they had to obtain various materials. To obtain Cherry Blossom from the Herbology Professor, players had to complete a challenge where they were required to step on the correct blocks and to collect the flower. Players then received Mistletoe by doing a parkour challenge in the library courtyard. The last material players had to obtain was Rice Straw from the History of Magic Professor in the library. Players obtained this material by successfully completing a history quiz that focused on the lore of the Mahounoshiro School of Magic. After obtaining all the materials, players needed to assemble the wreath in a sequence. Once the wreath was completed, the player had to hang it outside of the school. To do this, the player had to select from options in response to the question “What is your happy thought?”
Christmas Errands
After receiving the quest from Sato Hiroshi, the player had to gather ingredients to make fried chicken for the school. The players had to use Mahounoshiro’s firedust network to visit the Marketplace in order to find all the following ingredients: Chicken, Flour, Oil, Soy Sauce, Garlic Powder, Potato Starch, Ginger, and Curry Powder. After completing two puzzles to obtain the ingredients, players went to the school’s kitchens and spoke to Chef Daisuke. Players then cooked the fried chicken following a sequence. Afterwards, Chef Daisuke instructed the players to make a Christmas Cake. To do this, players had to obtain the following ingredients: Dry Ingredients Mix, Milk, Eggs, Honey, Cake Topping, and Strawberries. Players then followed Chef Daisuke’s instructions to make the Christmas Cake. After this, the player would speak to Sato Hiroshi and tell her that the fried chicken was ready.
Side Quests
Three side quests could be completed during this event. They were repeatable and each had a 24-hour cooldown.
Wanna Build A Snowman?
Players spoke to Mayeda Makoto and had to locate the Puraimari Professor who gave the players a snowball launcher. The player then had to locate the Guremurins and defeat them with the snowball launcher to obtain: 6 Buttons, 3 Carrots, 15 Volcanic Rocks, 3 Top Hats, and 3 Scarves. Players then returned to Mayeda who told the players to locate the 3 snowmen located in the school’s courtyard. At each snowman, players had to complete a sequence with the materials they had obtained in order to decorate them. Upon visiting each snowman, players returned to Mayeda.
Stocking Up
Players spoke to Etsuko Saito who told them they needed to create 5 stockings. Players received 5 Peppermint Candy Cane, 5 Fruity Candy, 5 Bear Toy, 5 Holiday Choco Hop Card, and 5 Empty Stocking. They then had to craft them using a sequence at one of the crafting stations around the main courtyard. After crafting the 5 stockings, players had to deliver them to 5 mailboxes around the school.
Quabbleball Practice
Players spoke to the Quabbleball Captain who gave them a Mahounoshiro Quabbleball. Players used the item to hit 25 targets at the practice range located east of the main courtyard. Once players had hit all targets, they spoke to the Quabbleball Captain.
