Butterbrew Carnival 2022

Overview

The Butterbrew Carnival 2022 took place between the 20th of August and the 1st of October. As usual, the event was celebrated in the town of Hogsend. It featured a tutorial quest, a themed escape room, a brewing competition, and a variety of activities and carnival games. In prior years, it was known as the Butterbrew Festival.

Storyline

There was no particular storyline for this event. Instead, the event gave Hogsworth students the opportunity to have some festive fun at a carnival during the fall season.

Location

The Butterbrew Carnival 2022 was set in the frosty and festively-decorated Hogsend. Orange and brown decorations, banners and flags adorned the buildings and streets. Players could travel to the event venue via the Kevin NPC right outside Hogsworth's Great Hall or from their Warp Key using the Event Warp Key Slot.

Quests

Butterbrew 2022 Carnival

This quest served to introduce the player to the event's features and mechanics. To start, Kevin was excited about the event. He told the player about the awesome games and prizes, then, asked if they are ready to experience the fun of the Butterbrew Carnival. He then teleported the player to the carnival and explained the carnival game system, giving them six Game Tokens and an additional Game Token to try out their first game. Kevin also gave players a Butterbrew Carnival Ticket Pouch to help keep track of tokens and tickets earned. After trying out one game, Kevin explained that there were unique prizes to collect from each game. He then directed players to Brewmaster Barry about a competition between breweries and to a petting zoo for a House Points competition.

For the carnival, there were five game stands in total and each cost one Game Token to play. On a daily basis, players could talk to Kevin at the entrance to Hogsend to get six Game Tokens. Game Tokens were specific to the event mechanics, and are different from Event Tokens.

Butterbrew Trials

The annual Butterbrew Trials took place in the cellars below the Three Broomsticks Inn. Heidi challenged players to put their thinking skills to the test in a Butterbrew-themed escape room, revolving around solving 10 puzzles between the Entrance Room, the Break Room, the Butterbrew Lab Room, the Treasury, and the Clock Room. These puzzles included finding hidden items, mathematics, decoding secret codes, and more. Completing puzzles would reward the player with coloured gems. The five different gems had to be placed in the correct order inside the Clock Room in order to claim the final prize, which was an exclusive collectable.

Side Quests

There were no side quests in the event.

Activities

There were five carnival games available to play at stalls scattered around the event map: Dino Dig, Duck Pond Fishing, Food Eating, Ingredient Drop, and Balloon Darts. Each required one Game Token to play and rewarded game-specific Carnival Tickets, which could be used to purchase game-specific collectables, consisting of various plushies and heads. Players could also talk to the Minigames Master to play seven different minigames rewarded with Event Tokens upon completion. To add a competitive aspect, there was a Brewing Competition and a Petting Zoo Competition.

Dino Dig

In this carnival game, players talked to Ella Zelly to start. They were then shrunk down to get to the dig site and had limited time to dig up fossils from prehistoric times using an excavation tool. Afterwards, the unidentified fossils could be refined into identified fossil parts by random chance. These could then be combined together with purchased yarn for animal-based plushie collectables. Dino Dig Game Tickets or Event Tokens were also rewarded.

Duck Pond

Located near the petting zoo, the game's objective was to fish out as many Rubber Duckies as possible within 20 seconds. Rubber Ducky colours each had a different worth: the Blue Rubber Duckies rewarded one Event Token, the Pink Rubber Duckies rewarded one Duck Pond Game Ticket, and the Orange Rubber Duckies rewarded two Duck Pond Game Tickets. Grey Rubber Duckies were considered unlucky, and they did not reward the player with anything. After completing this game, players were given Event Tokens as well. The game-specific Game Tickets could also be used to purchase pufferfish plushies from the Rewards shop next to Liam.

Food Eating

This unusual carnival game, located deeper into Hogsend, involved eating as much food as possible from the table in the correct order within 30 seconds. Players had their fill of burgers, butterbrew, ice cream, pancakes, pie, and popcorn. If they ate the wrong food, tickets were lost. Upon completion, players were rewarded with Event Tokens and Food Eating Game Tickets, which were used to buy butterbrew-themed heads from the Rewards shop next to the table.

Ingredient Drop

Within this fast-paced game, players had to catch as many butterbrew ingredients falling from the sky as they could within the time limit. To start, players had to talk to Violet, who was behind the Minigames Master NPC. They were then given a barrel to push around and catch the ingredients. After finishing, players were rewarded with Event Tokens and Ingredient Drop Game Tickets which they could use to trade for panda plushies.

Balloon Darts

Just outside The Broomsticks Inn, this game stall had the classic balloon dart game and players started the game by talking to Casimir. Each balloon popped a chance of dropping bonus Event Tokens or Balloon Darts Game Tickets. These tickets were then redeemed for Among-Us-inspired sussy plushies.

Minigames

Throughout the event, players could talk to the Minigames Master to play some minigames and earn Event Tokens.

Brewing Competition

During the introductory quest, players encountered Brewmaster Barry, who explained the competition. There were three different well-known breweries to compete for the title of Ultimate Brewmasters. Each brewery company had their own colour scheme: Confectionary Concoctions had cyan and orange, Bloomsbury Batch had brown and orange, and Witching Hour had yellow and orange. 

After completing the introduction quest, every player got randomly sorted into a brewery team. The goal for each team was to accumulate points by brewing and depositing butterbrew. 

To brew butterbrew, players had to fetch the necessary ingredients: butterscotch, cream soda, ice cream, ice, cinnamon, and whipped cream. Then, they completed a brewing sequence, where the butterbrew's rarity depended on the amount of time taken to brew it. A faster brewing time resulted in a higher rarity.

Common Butterbrew gained the team one point, Rare Butterbrew gave the team three points, and the Legendary Butterbrew was worth five points. Bloomsbury Batch, the winning team, received their own collectable trophy for free. Players who were not a part of the winning team could purchase the Bloomsbury Batch 1st Place Trophy for 100 Event Tokens at Mrs. Bloomsbury’s stall.

Petting Zoo Competition

The four houses competed against each other in a unique House Points competition at the outskirts of Hogsend. There were five different types of creatures at the zoo that could be fed: Hippogriffs, baby elephants, otters, Storm Petrals, and Lunarcalves. The goal was to be the house that fed a certain creature type the most, meaning that a house could win more than once. The creatures could be fed with two different types of creature feed purchased from Natalia using Event Tokens: either basic food or fancy food. Basic food gave one point and cost one Event Token—making the creature full for five minutes, whereas fancy food awarded five points and cost five Event Tokens—making the creature full for 30 minutes. At the event's conclusion, whichever house had the most points for a creature won House Points. The winners were announced in a forum post on October 26th, 2022.
