Return to the Haunted Hollow 2021

Overview

Return to the Haunted Hollow lasted from October 23rd, 2021 until November 13th, 2021. The event was to celebrate Halloween, and allowed players to explore the town of Haunted Hollow, which was introduced in the Halloween in Haunted Hollow event the year prior.

Storyline

The residents of Haunted Hollow were celebrating their annual Halloween Celebration and invited Hogsworth students to participate. Some students had previously visited the town during Halloween in 2020 and had helped the residents, earning the trust of the town.

Location

For this event, players returned to the Haunted Hollow, a magical town where the residents were all magical creatures. This spooky town consisted of many houses, most of which were located around the town’s circular centre. There were also a handful of mansions situated along the outskirts of town. Students also had to venture into the cemetery and pumpkin patch for some of their quests. Once they saved up enough Boo Bucks, they could trade them in at the Market located outside of town.

Quests

There were five quests made available to players via the quest book. These quests all rewarded the player with Boo Bucks, which could then be used to purchase collectables.

Droobledore’s Mansion

Players were invited to attend the Halloween Masquerade Ball at Droobledore’s Mansion. Once there, it was revealed that Droobledore did not intend to let them leave. Players had to complete five puzzles and capture all five poltergeists before they could make their escape.

The Right of Passage

Since Hogsworth students visited the Haunted Hollow for the first time the year before, a lot had changed. When talking to Octavius, the mayor of Haunted Hollow, the students heard a strange voice and needed the help of Mason to figure out what it is. Mason revealed that the voice was his own son’s, Jacon, and that he was supposed to do the Werewolf Rite of Passage on his own. Mason then instructed the students to ignore his son, however, students helped Jacon anyway. They had to obtain some meat and aromatics to make Ceremonial Meat. Doing so would allow Jacon to complete his Rite of Passage and become a full member of the Werewolf pack.

The Vengeful Escape

A year prior, Count Ciarian tragically was murdered. Since then, he preferred to lurk in the graveyard while his murderer, Polly Nicholso, was locked in a dungeon. After she broke out of her prison, the Count required the players’ assistance to capture her again. Players had to search the dungeons for clues on where she could have gone, where they found a coin with a tracking spell. Using the coin, Polly was found hiding out in her old home and the player had to defeat her.

Murder Mystery

Originally, Murder Mystery was a part of the 2020 Halloween event, but it was brought back so that players who had missed it could complete it. To start, players talked to a Maid outside the count’s mansion. She informed players that the owner of the mansion had been murdered and requested the player's help in assisting the hired detective in finding some clues around the house. These clues were then processed at the Forensic Analysis Station. Afterwards, all of the attendees were questioned by players and the culprit was then decided. 

Happy Death Day

The Griffin house ghost, Basically Beheaded Benjamin, decided to have his Death Day Party at Haunted Hollow. Unfortunately, things were not going as planned for the ghost. Players had to help him throw his party, which included doing tasks such as making invitations, decorating the ballroom, and delivering invitations.

Side Quests

Halloween Hustle

A young witch named Sabrina needed help getting things ready for Halloween. Players helped her out by completing a few tasks for her. These tasks included: crafting and delivering bags of candy, decorating her house, busting ghosts in the attic, finding her brother, and trick-or-treating.

Working with Wolves

As the full moon grew closer and closer, the werewolf Orlando needed to prepare his pack against potential rogue werewolves. Players needed to kill Thestries to get their meat and feed it to the werewolf families. The next day, Orlando asked for players to help the new families in the pack. Specifically, Mrs. Yardbury and her daughter Eda missed their old home and the player was tasked to retrieve some of their old, sentimental items. The following day, it was revealed that the pack was having trouble with some Vampires who were attempting to control the hunting grounds. Orlando had the player take care of the Vampires before their plan to attack the werewolves would come to fruition. On the fourth and final day, the wave of Werewolves arrived at Haunted Hollow to attack the town and the player needed to take down Caius, an extremely dangerous rogue werewolf.

Trick or Treating

Players would talk to Sam to start their task: trick-or-treating at as many houses as possible in two minutes. After getting as much candy as they could, they would take it back to Sam to trade it in for Boo Bucks.

Activities

Apple Bobbing

For the price of two Boo Bucks, players would get three attempts to bob for apples. They could either get Red Apples or Green Apples, which were much rarer. Players could keep the apples for themselves or trade 25 Red Apples and 10 Green Apples with Johnny Appleseed to receive a gold trophy.

Minigames

There were five different minigames that players could access through an NPC in the event. Each of these games gave players Boo Bucks, which they could then trade for rewards.

Contests

There was a PW-tober art contest and raffle that was run in conjunction with this event. Each day in October would have a new prompt and players could submit their art on Potterworld’s own Art Discord. Each submission would give the player one entry into the raffle. At the end of the month, three winners, mn614, bea_5OOOO, and Hopecute23, were chosen and they had the option of receiving the Pet Ghost or Jack-o'-Lantern Mask.

Rewards & Collectables

There were a variety of different event rewards that players were able to obtain throughout the Return to Haunted Hollow event.

Players could purchase Cosmetic Spells, Scarves, Banners, Food, or Miscellaneous items with Boo Bucks. These tokens were earned by participating in /games, the seasonal minigames, and completing the quests.

Store Releases

A variety of items were released in the store for this event. This included some old seasonal items:

There were also two new seasonal items released:

• The Witch’s Broom
• Pumpkin Death Effects

One permanent item was also released: The Devil’s Pitchfork. Along with the store releases, there was a 40% off sale for all other items on the store.
